Post Game Green Bay Defeats Indy 16-10

I can only remember one time where they got the ball back with 6 mins and a lead and ran out the clock. Against the Lions 5-6 years ago maybe? It’s rare for GB for as long as I can remember, even when they had good OL and backs. Something in the water.
We did it once against Brady's Pats at Lambeau. But, you're right. It's few and far between. And, we do need to change that.

Yes I remember that too, Rodgers hit Cobb for a first down on third and 6 or something. I was just thinking about running the ball. The Lions seem to do it at will, and I think that’s just their OL. KC seems to do it as well. Wish GB could.

Love the win. It's been a while since they've overcome an injury like this with a specific game plan and every part of the team contibuted to picking up the slack and supporting Willis.

My keys to the season:

Kicking game: Didn't cost them the game, but that late missed FG to put things out of reach was bad. Not sure they have the kicker problem fixed. I mean Washington just picked up a kicker a week ago and the guy kicked 7 FGs without a miss and won the game for them on Sunday. Are Gute and RB that bad at evaluating kickers?

Run defense. Still not great, but the tackling was better this week and they had some important stops despite allowing Taylor almost 9ypc. Holding down Richardson was important and was a major factor in the win. Still a work in progress. Maybe they just don't have the guys to stop the run consistently.

Inexperience at QB. Without Love, there was even less experience at QB last week. Despite Willis doing enough to win, at this stage he's clearly not an NFL quality starter. Against a better opponent this would have been a loss and Willis' inability to get much done would have been the primary reason.

Any win is a good win and this game was no exception. Now let's go get another win next week against a very "meh" Titans team.

i just want to make it clear that: yes, i am bad at evaluating kickers. i freely admit it, and no team - especially the packers - should ever rely on a kicker evaluation made by me. thankfully, i have never evaluated any kickers. so i think we are safe. for now.

Trade 2 1st rounders for Justin Tucker. hgh)

Re: The kicking game. You don't bring in an UDFA Rookie kicker and expect there not to be some bumps in the road. He's missed 2 40+ FGs. Will he be a great kicker? I have no idea, but IMO you don't bring in him to give up on him quickly. In college, he converted FGs at a 79% rate. Not overwhelmingly great, but I couldn't find any data on what distance his misses were from. As for the Commanders kicker, I wouldn't use his 7 FG day to annoint him as the latest great kicker found on the scrap heap just yet. He's been around for a while and was available for a reason. Good kickers aren't just sitting around at home doing nothing. Career 18/25 40-49, 2/6 50+, missed 5 PAT's his rookie year. 10 times out of 10 you take the rookie the Packers have over him, and hope he realizes his upside.

As for Willis.. I agree he's not a NFL quality starter. I'd like to have someone better as a back up. Who? At what cost? There aren't 32 NFL quality starters in the league right now IMO, so to have a back up available who you are confident can be that is a luxury few teams have. Who has a guy on the bench that you believe right now can step in and take at team on a playoff run? Indy has a guy that I believe could in Flacco, but not for that team.. IMO you can't expect to have a back up that you can win many games with. You hope you have a guy that can go 1-1, 1-2, 2-3 in a short stretch as a starter and not cost you a playoff opportunity. It's RARE to have an MVP candidate in Carson Wentz and have Nick Foles as your back up who takes you on a playoff run and wins the Super Bowl MVP. That just doesn't happen very often and to expect that kind of performance from a back up isn't realistic. The reality is, if Love missing significant time, playoff hopes are slim, and I don't know of an option for back up QB that changes that. I'm not sure if he was out for 8-10 weeks and they signed Tannehill who appears to be the best available longer term option if THAT changes anything.

Run defense.. key to their run defense for a while has been to get the lead and take their offense out of the run game for the most part. For me, it's no different now. Offense get the lead, defense hold against a team forced to pass more. Back up QB might cause some challenges there.

There are questions I need to ask. Three times we had penalties on our offensive line, that didn't even impact the play, that cost us long gains and TDs. Yet, nobody is carrying on like it was the end of the world over them. Yet, the amazing job Josh Jacobs did in running the ball to make the offense work is marred by; "Yeah but he fumbled at the goal line, and nearly cost us the game!" At the same time, nobody seems to be talking about three stupid offensive line penalties that cost us big gains. Two which were TDs. One was Jacobs.

At the same time, our rookie kicker missed a FG, and OMG, he's only at 75%, and could have cost us the game. He didn't cost us the game, and the Colts kicker missed one too. I wonder if they're tar and feathering him as well?

What people need to be concentrating on is what's important, not act like a bunch of nit picking snipers. Concentrate on the great game plans that we had on both sides of the ball. The defense played great! They kept the Colts off the board quite effectively. On offense, forget that fumble, and think about how Jacobs carried the ball over 30 times, and gained 150+ yards on the ground. He did that against a team that knew he was going to get the ball constantly. Give credit to him, and the people who were blocking out front, because it was all of them combined, that created that dynamic result. Then, credit the coaching staff, for creating a game plan that showed motion constantly, to force the defense to make changes in how they were going to handle coverage while the play was developing. It helped keep their linebackers off balance, and created concerns for them, in their secondary. It helped a great deal in keeping the Colts from blitzing.

This was one helluva great team effort, and that includes the game planning, and play calls on offense as well. Great job team!

But that's just my opinion.

It's just your opinion, but IMO, you happen to be right. The only thing I think about with Jacobs is, we can't ask him to carry the ball that much every week. We need him with fresh legs at the end of the season for a postseason run! And we need him the next 3-4 years.

Jacobs is a guy who can carry the ball more then Aaron Jones did he's just built better to do that. Jones I htink was a guy who was maybe a guy who you could give it to 15 times a game. Jacobs is a guy I think on regular basis can do it 20-25 times a game.

If Josh ends up leading the NFL in yardage, makes All Pro, and in the hunt for the MVP, there will be those fans who still think Jones is our guy, who will be pointing back to this last game and saying; "Yeah! But Jacobs fumbled at the goal line!" They have tunnel vision, and don't see the whole scope of the game.

It's too bad, because you have to find the good in even bad things that happen out there. Lord only knows it's how most of us survived still being fans during the 70s and 80s.
