Post Game: Green Bay defeats Detroit 35-17

The Packers were better than the undermanned Lions last night. Even though our offensive line wasn't cutting it in the run game, and was sometimes lacking in pass protection, there was enough time to get shorter pass routes out. A good defensive team would have eaten them alive, and Rodgers would probably be on the injury list today. He was sacked 3 times by the Lions. The bright spot on the offensive line though was that our tackles held up well, and got a few key blocks. It helped keep their defense honest,

Rodgers missed a lot of opportunities, not throwing the ball when he should. He was locking in early on guys, and not reading the field well enough to make those connections. Rusty? OK! Bad route choices, and running? OK! It will get better - I hope. Of course that would mean the run game needs to improve an awful lot. They played two high almost every play, even with 3rd and short, knowing they were a match to our offensive line, and running game.

On defense, King is probably out now. I'm impressed by our newest CB. Stokes has excellent technique, and has already learned to use body control over grabbing and pulling. One heckuva defensive play he made late, in the end zone. People will be making a mistake if they try to throw on him as a rookie, later in the season. Pretty soon he's going to be able to handle one on one's without much, if any, help. It will free up a safety. Good pick in my mind.

Packers rush. It isn't really that effective. We'll blame it on injuries, if you like. I'm not certain it's going to be there with the front 3. Not mobile enough, or quick enough, to create havoc along the line. We'll know more when they play a solid team.

A win is a win in the NFL. Rodgers acted like he shouldn't be questioned on his play when interviewed. He's going to be more of a distraction early in the season than we need. I wonder how this will play out.

Honestly, it sounds bad but it's a horse a piece at this point. Right now the front 7 is having problems getting pressure and against a team, with better players than Detroit, it's not going to be pretty.

I said last night in shout that the Kenny Clark contract looks worse and worse every year since he signed it, and I stand by that right now. In two games he's been invisible. They've got absolutely nothing going without pressure in the middle.

oh no it's not... he got his hinder burned at UGA a lot in Man. He might give you a great game and then he follows it up with pure craptastic the next. Drove the UGA staff nuts
His technique is a lot better than it was. I wonder how much of that deals with coaching? I wonder who he worked with in the off season?

Hard to disagree with this. He got a "fat cat" contract and isn't living up to it.

To be honest, TW gets lazy sometimes, big athletic WR gave him fits at times in college. I've seen him get frustrated and just mug a guy more than once. As a DB you have to have a short memory and a long fuse.

Let's hope he's gotten the message. He's shown some real raw talent so far, and it needs to continue. Maybe part of it is that he's replacing King. Anything would be an upgrade. I confess, I didn't see enough of him in college to pass judgement on how he was playing. Guys who get lazy are the death of a defensive team. They pull everyone down to their level.

I actually thought 12 played well. Missed Lazard on a cross route but for the most part played within the system. It’s easy to lock into Adams when 13 & 83 run very pedestrian flat routes.

Yes. He did play well. My statement was that he didn't have time to make the additional reads, and ended up rushing some of them because of the rush. Look at his QB rating. It don't get better than that.

Letting Det take a lead into halftime in your house? Really? This is DET...
It's the NFL. It happens. Especially within a division rivalry game. I'm not gonna get too worked up about being down at half. They came back and shut them out in the 2nd half. That's a good thing.
