Post Game Thread : Packers Hang On And Defeat Chargers

I think you're all on point about AR and the O, but let's not write revisionist history here. Last year this team - healthy Jordy and Cobb and Adams - had the exact same issues getting open against physical corners that we see this year. Seattle, Detroit and Buffalo's D did a number on them in the regular season, holding this O to 16, 7 and 13 points respectively. Aaron forced the issue downfield despite lack of success, and repeatedly overlooked easy dump off options in the flat. Really you can go back further to 2011 when the Chiefs and Giants found success playing us that way. The book has been out on us for a while, IMO.

This year, without Jordy, and Cobb and Adams banged up, they put 27 on Seattle, 24 on the Rams and 27 again on SD. I think the difference is that, before the SD game anyway, the D was stingy and gave the O a couple extra cracks at it which allowed more points. It's perfectly possible that this team, overall, is better built to withstand close games than even last year. I still don't quite have a handle on this team's identity yet, and it can still go either way. If Adams returns healthy, Lacy gets going, Jones keeps going strong and the D continues to at worst bend but not break, they could make a very very deep run. If the WR continue to deal with nagging injuries, or we suffer a long term injury on the D and they don't tighten up the short game passing D, they could lose a couple to some tough teams coming up.

Say what you want about Favre, that's one thing Rodgers can still learn from watching his old films. He worked with what he had. If Bill Schroeder was on this team, he'd be everyone's favorite player because he'd never drop a pass. Because Aaron would never throw to him.

Now, maybe that's a good thing in a lot of ways, but the point is, people would never have learned to hate Schroeder as much as they did if Favre wasn't at least making it a point to spread the ball around and work with whatever he had on the field. Rodgers needs to pull the stick out of his butt and start throwing to the people who are open, rather than eat the ball or throw it over James Jones' head because he's covered but he's the only one Rodgers trusts. Worry more about making a play sometimes, rather than protecting the rock.

i said pretty much the same thing in shout this morning. i agree 100%.

The D missed Raji and Burnett badly. Feel good about that unit after the bye week.

On offense:

Lacy looks terrible - slow and fat. I have no clue what's going on there - if he's not injured, then he's just not running hard, which makes him useless.

I love Randall Cobb. I really do. I was staunchly against resigning him - and these last 2 games are a part of the reason why. He's great with the ball in his hands but I feel like we have to go out of our way to get him the ball, because he struggles to get open on his own.

A RB who can catch the ball out of the backfield would do wonders for this offense. I feel like we're the only team in the NFL without that.

Biggest complaint was the 3rd and inches when our defense was gassed and we were on 3 straight 3 and outs, playing the worst run defense in the nfl, and Rodgers hurries them to the line, gets in shotgun, focuses almost entirely on trying to draw them offsides, and then hoists a 30 yard pass that had a 5% chance of success.

Just terrible. Get under center and sneak or hand it Starks. Keep the d off the field for another 3 minutes.

I feel like the over reliance on the hard count is actually hurting the offense at this point. Rodgers tends to cat and mouse too much. Mark you said best a couple games ago he needs to get under center and sling it without thinking so much.

Great point, we're paying Randall a lot of money and I don't watch the coaches film of the entire play, but on replay's and in real time it's not like this guy is getting bracket overages. Hell look at what Allen did Sunday vs a better secondary and with a lesser albeit good QB.

I think we have a RB that can catch the ball out of the backfield. It just seems like Clements and/or Rodgers don't like run that type of play. We see so few check downs and screens to RBs it's maddening.

I'm also in the camp that's surprised we didn't run the ball more.

I came in thinking our 2 backs would get 25 to 30 carries against a terrible run D. And Starks showed why they are last. Then the running game faded away.

Maybe during the bye week they will take a closer look at the running game.

Overall happy we can win ugly. Classic bend but don't break Capers defense. You want yards? Have it all. But giving up 20pts to a high powered offense and walking away with a W is ok. Capers only cares about 1 stat. Points. I think he's OK at 20.

That being said it was heart attack city. A little too much bending for my taste. But the D came up big when they had to.

Did SD have 4 shots at the 3? Pretty incredible the defense stopped them.

Ugly win but you don't get extra credit for style of win they count the same. This is a loss in other seasons. We get guys back healthy this team can do some serious damage.

6-0 and not even playing our best yet. We want to be peaking by late November/early December so if we rack up wins before we hit our stride, heck ya I'll take it. gopackgo

Don't know about this week but last week cobb was getting lots of double teams all game.

Since we can't see that live it is hard to say but on at least 1 replay I saw him getting doubled.

Seems the smart thing to do. Take out randall and force janis / Jones to beat you.

Goes back to missing davante.
