Trading Aaron Rodgers

I don't know what the answer is, but I don't think that we can say trading him in a year or 2 is a "lock" to happen. I sure hope we don't get to the same situation we had with Brett.

Barring a major turnaround by Rodgers I think it's close to a lock. If Aaron starts throwing 35+TD again we can reevaluate. But one has to assume that Gute traded up for Love because he believes he can equal or do better than 25TDs a year, which is what Rodgers has given the team the past two seasons.

But they're also not going to commit to a guaranteed $20-30 million to a QB that sucks. That was my point - that there's a bunch of uncertainty surrounding this trade talk. I agree that Aaron hasn't been Aaron the last couple of years, but he still shows glimpses. We know what we have in AR, and we won't know for a year or 2 what we have in Love. If Love shows promise, then the trade talk will become warranted, especially if we start hearing some major grumbling or retirement talk from Aaron.
When the Packers drafted Aaron, we were already hearing rumors from the Favre camp about retirement. On the flip side, Aaron keeps talking about playing a lot longer, but realistically with the pounding he's taken, there's just no way he's going to make it more the 3-4 year max. We've seen over the past few seasons that we simply don't have anyone else on this team that can step in if Rodgers gets hurt - we have 0 quality behind him and maybe that's a big worry for ML and Gute.

I just cannot see any organization sitting a 1st round pick more than 2 years. His value is that rookie contract and the cap flexibility it gives you.

Hopefully this will spur Aaron to refamiliarize himself with mechanics snd fundamentals. If he "gets with the program" things will reflect much more positively upon him.

Not saying he will have to accept a backup role in a couple years, but if he responds in a positive manner, maybe Gutey will trade him to the Patriots instead of Cleveland.

Aaron wants another SB. Another ring would solidify him among the GOATs. He's got nothing to lose by trying.
Stop it with the mechanics and fundamentals. Its not the issue. His mechanics were never great. Injuries and Father Time has taken its toll. He not going to be Aaron from 3-4 years ago ever again. That ship has sailed

One of Rodgers biggest strengths was him being able to scramble and by time for his WR's or run for the 1st down. With him aging and taking injuries that make him want to do that less he's becoming more of a in the pocket QB that likes to hold the ball and get sacked over throwing it away. Doing that he's going to get more and more beat up if he takes 40+ sacks a year.

and i just cannot see ml and gutey hang their future on a qb if he's as bad as most of the people on this forum think he is. seriously, why would they commit professional suicide? if love is as horrible as you and mark and at least half the people on this forum believe he is, they will know it in a very short time.

Thing is you would now how good or bad love is until he gets some time on the field. Can judge only so much in practice. If he is looking so horrible in practice that you can't start him then you already should be canned as a GM because you did not see this on tape.

Won’t be the first time an organization has hitched their wagon to a kid who flopped. Personally nothing in our GM evaluation process has been impressive. I’ve seen people who think Love can be a QB in the league. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Time will tell but the investment has been made. Your not waiting 3 years to find out

If you look around the league sitting a kid is a luxury. The value is the rookie deal which allows you cap flexibility. I’m not trying to say talent is not important, not at all but it’s also a business that carries cap and cash consideration. If your QB is carrying a $25m cash payout and he not playing at an elite level you need to re-evaluate where you are. Clearly #12 is not playing at an elite level and if a kid in a rookie deal can give you comparable production it’s actually an easy answer. That’s why I think 2020 is critical. If this team does not show that they can make a deep run, Rodgers is not getting younger and as that window closes the business decision kicks in

Once again, with the mechanics. How many times have you been told that is not the problem. AR has always completed 64%-68% of his passes his whole career. He has always thrown off his back foot. He has thrown side arm sometimes. Mechanics are not the issue, father time is the issue.

You are starting to sound like a broken record. Mike McCarthy, "We need to look at pad level".
