Trading Aaron Rodgers

Fact... GB moved up to draft a QB in round 1, you don't do so and then let that pick sit on his hinder for 5 years unless your highly incompetent or the pick sucked so...the clock is ticking like it or not. sh))
This is the key point. The organization has already made its decision to move on, when is the only decision left and the structure of the contract as also pointed out gives them options starting in 2021. The 2020 season will be their barometer. Some other things to consider.

With the pandemic, very good chance no fans in stands for 2020. Also the hit on Titletown will impact revenue. If the things happens, there will be a real crunch on cash flow.
  • Rodgers is due cash of $22m in 2021 and $25.5M in 2022
  • P. Smith also had a potential out after the 2020 season saving $12M in cash
  • D. Adams will be a UFA after the 2021 season while the cash is low in comparison, if you want to extend him you need to pay a nice signing bonus...translation cash flow
So what I am getting at is, drafting Love was, IMO a signal that the franchise is thinking of a reset soon than later

Do agree if you choose to resign all 3 in Clark, Bakatari, and Adams in next 1-2 years you will be having a massive payout in hard cash for all of those 3 players. Getting rid of Rodgers and maybe 1 or 2 other guys could free up needed cash to sign and pay SB for those guys.

IMO, Linsley will be gone next year- saves 10M, Taylor will be gone next year- saves 6M, Preston could be gone- saves 8M (all depends on if plays like last year or if Gary all of a sudden gets good :cautious:), and Turner- saves 4.5M, could be gone as well. That in itself saves a ton of money. (28.5M) That is enough to sign Clark and Aaron Jones or Bak. Can we sign all three? Not sure unless you let Z. Smith go which would save us another 10M. We could also let Amos go- saves 4.5M, if we find another Safety option. Aaron Jones could be the odd man out; especially, if this Dillion kid rises up.

If the Packers would move Rodgers, Turner, Kirksey, Wagner, and Jackson off the roster that would create nearly $55 million dollars in cap space for 2021. If you keep Rodgers you still would have about 50 million by cutting the other guys.

Another important fact. There's no way the people in charge would move ahead and dump Rodgers, until they had a certain degree of confidence that Love can step up and at least be a productive NFL QB. That means Rodgers has at least one more year, probably two, in GB. After that? All bets are off. But, rest assured, the people in the front office and on the sidelines are not going to do something drastic, and have it backfire on them. That would end up costing them all their jobs, and put them in a pretty bad light around the entire league. Coaches and Execs are judged by these situations, and this is not like the Brady/Pats situation, because Rodgers is not a FA.

My belief? I have zero confidence in Love at this point to be honest. I need to see if he's really the guy they need under center. I've never heard of any team catching lightning in a bottle 3 times in a row to be honest, except for the Dallas Cowboys.

Their wagon is hitched to Love. Only question is will it happen in 2021 or 2022. He not sitting with a clipboard for 3 years.

Yep. Esp with needing to put the 5th year option on him after year 3. Packers are not going to committ to a guaranteed 20-30 million to a QB who has not played.

But they're also not going to commit to a guaranteed $20-30 million to a QB that sucks. That was my point - that there's a bunch of uncertainty surrounding this trade talk. I agree that Aaron hasn't been Aaron the last couple of years, but he still shows glimpses. We know what we have in AR, and we won't know for a year or 2 what we have in Love. If Love shows promise, then the trade talk will become warranted, especially if we start hearing some major grumbling or retirement talk from Aaron.
When the Packers drafted Aaron, we were already hearing rumors from the Favre camp about retirement. On the flip side, Aaron keeps talking about playing a lot longer, but realistically with the pounding he's taken, there's just no way he's going to make it more the 3-4 year max. We've seen over the past few seasons that we simply don't have anyone else on this team that can step in if Rodgers gets hurt - we have 0 quality behind him and maybe that's a big worry for ML and Gute.
I don't know what the answer is, but I don't think that we can say trading him in a year or 2 is a "lock" to happen. I sure hope we don't get to the same situation we had with Brett.

Hopefully this will spur Aaron to refamiliarize himself with mechanics snd fundamentals. If he "gets with the program" things will reflect much more positively upon him.

Not saying he will have to accept a backup role in a couple years, but if he responds in a positive manner, maybe Gutey will trade him to the Patriots instead of Cleveland.

Aaron wants another SB. Another ring would solidify him among the GOATs. He's got nothing to lose by trying.
