Post Game Vikings defeat GB 27-25

I get frustrated with this WR group, because they're talented but they don't seem to be detail oriented, and more often than not they come up small when they just need to make a damn play. Perfect example was the game sealing pass from the Vikings. Darnold floats a pretty ugly ball to a running back, and that running back turns around behind him and makes a shoe string catch. That's a better catch than anyone not named Watson or Kraft have made for GB all year. And he's a running back! Just make a damn play on an imperfect ball, no excuses. I'm seeing all sorts of clips this morning of incompletions by GB where receivers slipped on their route, or hesitated, or the ball hit their hands and it's incomplete. I'm tired of demanding perfection from everyone else in order for these guys to do their jobs. Make a play for your QB! I feel like it's the same thing as last year. Step up for each other.

Maybe I or we are all overthinking the group. Reed, Watson, Tucker Kraft - day 2 picks. Doubs, Wicks - mid Day 3 picks. Melton, Heath - UDFA. Maybe it's no surprise that the top three are all the ones you'd want back on the team, and everyone else can go, but the team is relying heavily on those bottom 4 guys.

And maybe it's all well and good to have fun celebrating having the youngest team in the league every year, but these issues are part of a learning and maturing process, and GB is taking those lumps in big games against skilled, veteran opponents.

RB, you make some great points.

Look at Gute's draft classes for WR's at this point since 2018:

2018
Moore- 4th- Gone
MVS- 5th- Gone
St Brown- 6th- Gone

2019
None

2020
None

2021
Amari Rodgers- 3rd- Gone

2022
Watson- 2nd- Average
Doubs- 5th- Average
Toure- 7th- Gone

2023
Reed- 2nd- Average
Wicks- 5th- Below Average
Dubose- 7th- Gone

2024
None

Then add the UDFA's- Health, Melton, Etc.

He has not put WR at the top of his list (he just adds 2nd rate WR's) and that is why we are struggling at that position at times or at least against good teams. Reed is solid, Watson is solid, and Doubs is solid but they are #2 to #3 WR's. We have no one that can really beat man to man coverage on a consistent basis. JMO.

2d round, 3d round, and undrafted wide receivers should be making the catches thrown there way at a far far far higher percentage than ours do.

Kraft can't get out in routes because the Oline can't pass protect, so he has to stay in and help too often.

The Pack thinks they are much better than they are. Too bad we made the Ass Whooping look close, because it probably hasn't humbled us

Let’s be honest about the WR, none of them are trustworthy or consistent. GB doesn’t necessarily need the best WR. But they need much better than we have.

At this point I don’t see any indication Watson all of a sudden stays healthy and contributes more than the occasional great catch. And the others aren’t all of a sudden going to start catching everything. Besides none of them are consistent route runners who can separate.

It was easy to be fooled by the occasional great catches these guys can make but this is not a good group of WR, young or not. Gutey needs to address this. It’s not fair to Love or ML to keep among them try to do great things with bargain WR…

I was really hoping that one of these guys would evolve into a sure handed possession receiver. But, Hope Springs Eternal.

Let me just say this it's really a group-wide post more to any one person. I think you're way overthinking some stuff. It's week 16, 11-5 which is the majority of people had us finishing here so I am a bit perplexed by your angst.

Defense, my goodness we have so many folks here with short memories, We beat this horse to death before and during preseason but I'll try again. This whole 3/4 to 4-3 plug-and-play nonsense and why it's not that simple has been on full display.
It was never ever going to be simple or a quick perfect fix.

Depth, ditto see above: As a group when AR left looking at the cap and personal we almost all agreed it was a 3-year deal to get restocked. This next draft and FA cycle should be those finishing touches. It's always nice to want more quickly but in reality, we do not have all the horses in the barn to run the race.

ML, his record his first 5 years is stellar, his win % is top 5/7 all time. Is he perfect? Nope but come on some of you are a bit out there with the criticism. He's a hell of a lot better than Fat Albert and his jimmy john menu call sheet. (Dallas fans know now)

Vikings game thoughts a day later. GB came off of a hell of a 3 game run the NFL put them through. It's extremely hard to game plan and execute perfectly in that back to back to back situation. I think we had tired legs and minds, not just players but coaches too.

WR thoughts gotta hold those passes when they are in your hands. Just that simple. Paid pros who are second in the league in drops say enough. I don't agree that a vet player fixes it at all. Draft one high.

Love, as stated last night. You can't bitch at him trying to make plays and he throws picks then come back and complain when he's very ho-hum. Turn him loose like it's a two-minute drill in a pistol set. You saw that in the last 5 minutes... green light it in the first 5.

I am not mad about winning 11 and getting in.

BOTTOM LINE: We need more talent in key positions to make a run. Stop expecting safties to play slot corner and guards to play OT and wonder What happened to the Packers? FP( Cch sb( br)

i think the vikings went to a soft defense knowing full well that their offense could easily control the ball for few minutes. i mean you could see they had no fear of our defense when they actually ran two pass plays in the final minutes of "kill the clock".
“I think at that point, the defense is playing a little softer,” quarterback Jordan Love said of the fourth-quarter comeback.
