Packers 2024-25 Season Thread

I think the Packers WR's are more concerned with YAC and are more focused on that than actually catching the ball first.
if that's true they need to change their priorities. immediately. just catch the d@mn ball.

btw, guess who leads the packers in yards after contact per reception with 11.0 yards? josh jacobs (who also has zero dropped passes). that's third best in the nfl. second on the packers team is tucker kraft with 9.2 yac/reception, which is tied for 13th best in the nfl. tucker has a 9.3% drop rate. also, jacobs is tied for second in broken tackles after the catch (9) and kraft is in 5th place (8). so your two best receivers are not wide receivers.

reed is in 29th place with 7.3 yac/reception. watson is tied for 60th place with 5.7 yac/reception. everyone else is below the league average of 5.3 yac/reception. wicks is tied for 85th place with 4.4 yac/reception. doubs is in 136th place with 2.7 yac/reception. so none of these guys are exactly setting the nfl on fire with yac.

Let me add a caveat to this.

All these WR's for the Packers are mid to lower draft picks or UFA's, except Reed and Watson. Even those two are still 2nd rounders and not top draft picks. The Packers continue to believe they can find WR's anywhere in a pile of dung. They did the same thing to AR and only drafted Adams over an 8 year period.

I have said it already and I will say it again. Doubs is a #3, Wicks is a #3 or #4, Watson is #2 OR #3, and Reed is a #2. All of these guys disappear from game to game. None of them are consistent. We need to draft another WR high in the draft. These WR's have not been consistent enough.

exactly. remember when we thought we had an embarrassment of riches at wr? we thought gute was a genius for picking up a bunch of #2 wrs with late round picks. turns out most of them truly were #2, if you know what i mean. we are down to four active receivers, of which at least two would rarely see any playing time on most playoff caliber teams. you can have the best qb in the league, but if you don't have one true #1 wr (some teams have 2) your offense is going to sputter a lot.

Having said what I said, we are 5th in offensive production. So we aren't sucking. :)

so here are two first round draft picks from 2023 that gute could have selected instead of lukas van ness:

jaxon smith-njigba (seattle): 6th in the nfl in receiving yards and 3.9% drop rate.
zay flowers (baltimore): 11th in the nfl in receiving yards and 4.3% drop rate.

and you could have probably traded down since these guys were taken #20 and #22. van ness was taken at #13.

No, we're not sucking comparatively against the League.

But, we are sucking compared to what we believe our abilities should be playing at.

If our drop ratio was reduced 50%, imagine the Packers additional offensive plays and scores and the reduction in our opponents' offenses opportunities.

We might be the 12-1 team. We might be the most dangerous team. We might not be - probably wouldn't be - 1 - 3 in Division.

The correct answer is Christian Gonzalez, who is on the verge of going pro bowl/pro at CB, which was a need then, and still is a need.

At the time I liked Broderick Jones who Pitt took has been up and down at OT for them.
