Packers 2024-25 Season Thread

but it seems like every time the packers rework a contract lately, they add void years. ball used to be very good at protecting the packers from dead cap, but now it constitutes something like 25% of the total cap. i just would like to see a return to those days when we had very little dead cap.
This subject was a FlaPack specialty. I think the idea is that with player salaries and the cap getting so juiced, void years are a way to keep up with these salaries and NFL player spending overall. TT refused to use them, arguably to the detriment of the roster. Gute overused them during Covid because of flat revenue and that's what we're working our way out of. Going forward I expect more sparing use but they don't have to be a bad thing if it allows you to add or retain talent.

hope you are correct. wasting a quarter of our salary cap on dead money doesn't seem productive to me.

I remember back in 2019, Preston Smith was your number 1 UFA target. He's a true 3-4 OLB, was a really good one for GB for these years. I get why he wanted to play where he's comfortable.
Yeah I don't blame him 9 years as a 3-4 LB and at this point in career does not want to try to switch. Even more so knowing GB is probably moving on from him after the season anyways. Go play in 3-4 have good 2nd half of the season maybe he can work out reworked deal to stay in Pitt.

RE: Preston Smith. If you listen to it, I believe he actually requested the trade not only because he didn't feel comfortable but because he didn't feel he was contributing. Unlike others who left the Pack and bad mouthed us, I haven't heard any of that from him. This is good for all. Wish him well, unless he's playing the Packers.

Can't hold anything against him, he probably saw the writing on the wall and was a really good Packer in his time. Pitt is hopefully a nice fit for him, that's actually a great get for them.

The Packers offensive line has given up only 69 total pressures and Jordan Love leads the NFL in sack percentage. We are also 4th in rushing yards in the NFL. This o-line is actually getting the job done considering how weak we are at C, RG, and LT.

i'm not sure you can credit the o-line for us being 4th in rushing yards. we are rushing the ball a lot more than we used to in order to compensate for the o-lines poor blocking. same with sack percentage. when you rush the ball more often there's less chance for a sack. the eyeball test tells me this o-line is holding the offense back.
