Packers 2022 Thread

could you please point me to one aaron rodgers quote where he says that he "doesn't want to do the play-action thing"? or is this just something that has been theorized?

FWIW - I don't know what AR has said directly, especially this season about it. There has however been some discussion about taking snaps from under center being harder on his hand/thumb. In addition, I seem to recall AR and others in the past talking about liking to take snaps from shotgun because you can see/scan the defense more effectively as opposed to turning your back on the defense after the snap if you're running play action. While you can certainly run the ball from the shotgun, it does limit the types of plays and looks.

I believe I read a couple years ago that Rodgers doesn't like running plays that just march down the field. He didn't think that was football. Implying that he believes more in going for it and big plays - all the time. It certainly seems like he tries to go for bigger plays than just marching down the field 4 yards at a time.

It certainly frustrates me. Far too frequently for me, he's throwing a deep ball on 3d and short. And far too frequently, it doesn't succeed.

It certainly seems like he's using the entire play clock to attempt to create and manipulate the opportunity for big plays.

I wish, he would run a more quick hitting offense of runs and short quick passes at tempo - not rushed, and not all without a huddle - but at tempo to put pressure on the defense - I think this is in a lay man's sense what LaFleur wants to run. If he did and gave up the 'big play', I think he'd learn play action, motion, and other schemes and tactics to free up receivers would be successful, tire the opponents defense, and create the big play opportunities.

I think he's looking one play at a time. I wish he was looking at each play as part of an offensive strategy. I don't think he's seeing the forest for the trees and it's costing the Pack.

Now part of that is coaches selling their approach and how it will open up the field. Not first play, possibly not 3d play, but it will open up everything.

Case in point: The year he wrecked his knee against the Bears in first half of the first game (I believe before LaFleur). Came back in second, couldn't move and had to get rid of it quickly to avoid the rush. All of a sudden the Bears' defense was gassed and he picked them apart with ease.

"I don't understand why people have a problem with things that are truthful," Rodgers said. "I'm calling things the way I see it. People don't think I need to air that stuff out, that's their opinion. But I'm doing what I think is in the best interest of our guys, and I've tried a lot of different things from a leadership standpoint this year, and I was just relating my personal feelings on the situation. I didn't call anybody out by name. I think we all need to be on the details, and that includes me."

Guess he forgot to try to show up in OTA and pre-season to work with the young WR's.

"We have to be truthful with one another," LaFleur said. "Sometimes the truth hurts. ... I don't think he publicly called out individuals, I don't believe, I didn't sit there and listen to the whole thing, so I just think that you have to get to the root of the truth."

Why does it seem he does not have the spine to stand up to Rodgers?

Rodgers said it was nothing he hasn't shared behind closed doors inside team headquarters at Lambeau Field.

"If one of those guys has a problem with it, I'm right here, and I'd love to have a conversation," Rodgers said. "I enjoy those conversations. I enjoy any type of conflict like that because I know the resolution on the other side is going to make us a better unit, a better friendship, a better cohesion on the field. But nobody's come to me and said, 'I've got a problem with what you said.' I think everybody knows, Matt included, that everything's got to take a little uptick, get a little better."

Anyone goes up to Rodgers they are probably signing their own death warrant. No player is going to be dumb enough to confront him on this.

Here is the problem from his own mouth>>

It's not about what "YOU" see or want or say..... 100% the problem here. Stop making it about you Aaron and start playing team ball.
Me personally, I don't want to hear a g*ddarned word out of his mouth while he's out there throwing worm burners and ducks like Vince Young.

I understand what you guys are saying but Vince Young? Come on...

AR has 11 TDS and 3 INTS. He has completed 65% of his passes with a crap ton of drops.

Has he missed some passes he usually makes? Yes. Is he playing at an MVP level? No. Is he making 50M which the Packers decided to give him and he took it? Yes. Should he be playing better since he is making that kind of money? Absolutely.

I know he is a pain in the a _ _ and runs his mouth but to say he is throwing worm burners and ducks and playing like Vince Young is laughable. Especially, when he has a bad thumb (should not be playing), rookie WR's running the wrong routes, and WRs running into each other.

Sorry, RP but I had to say it. :)

All his TD though have seem to come on short yardage passes that many could have been run plays also. Any of these long bomb passes he is attempting are not coming close.

His yds per attempt is down 1.2 yds vs 2021 and and 1.7 yds vs 2020. I think it’s more of a reflection on the WR group who had MVS to take the top off
