Official Preseason Game 1 Green Bay vs Houston Thread

Unfortunately, just followed along the shout and the gametracker from ESPN.

Was Love accurate?

Offensive Line comments concern me.

26 isn't that many points in the modern game, but - and I know they weren't starters - was our defense at least playing with enthusiasm, intensity, and attitude?

He had some nice throws but some WR's also made some nice catches. Love has to learn to protect ball better in the pocket. For a guy who is pretty much a rookie he was solid I will say.

ST's still have zero idea how to cover on kick coverage. We promoted a guy who looks like he changed nothing the former ST coach did.

GB drafted a bunch of late round OL picks the last few years and are counting on them to provide all the depth and starting guards. Might not be the best choice.

Apparently Love got dinged on the strip sack, ML didn’t give details so don’t know how serious

Edit: Love said he strained his shoulder a little, doesn’t seem concerned

I'm watching it for the second time. This time from the Packers perspective. The first was from the Texans broadcast. Same game. Same lack of almost everything.

All I got from it at this point is that we still don't know what special teams are, and that Love has a strong arm.

It was impossible to evaluate any of the RB's competing for the RB3 spot because there was no blocking from the OL. The only bright spot was the TD pass to Hill, and while that was nice, it still sheds no light on the running game.

I hope we see a better prepared plan for running the football this next week.

Call BS on the protect the ball comment.... the LT was worse than a jelly doughnut. Stop blaming the QB for awful OL play. If that's the first string he completes a pass for positive yardage rather than the strip....

Love was fine actually better than a lot of rookies in their first start we have seen in GB.... remember due to Covid etc he really is a rookie in terms of playing time. Defensive IMHO is still about the same. Area of concern for Mark to all of you....Berry plays more zone than we have seen in yrs. We aren't built in the backend for zone but for off man.

What I saw from Love didn't disappoint me. Despite what people want to say, his 110 QB rating says he did a decent job. The strip? There was no place for him to step up. The entire offensive line retreated back to him. What Mark is pointing at, and I agree, how did someone coming in from outside the left tackle get all the way around the offensive line, to make a strip on the right side of the QB? That's not on Love. That's on the guys who are supposed to be blocking.

I was trying to remember how Rodgers reacted the first time he took the field in an exhibition game in Green Bay. If I recall correctly, a lot of people were of the opinion that the kid didn't have what it took to ever replace Favre, and it was a totally wasted draft pick.

But, I digress.......

Nijman has no place on this team, no functional play strength. ML said the strip wasn’t Loves fault, but later said they tell all their QBs that when they’re that deep on a drop, they’ve gotta be aware.

I thought Runyan had a bit of a rough trip as well, even on that long throw to Sternberger he found himself in space and got beat badly.
