Bucks vs Hawks Eastern Conference Finals Thread

Last night showed how you plan and exploit matchups. The only real size Atlanta has is Capela so match it with Lopez and Portis both 6-10+ and dominate the paint. It also showed why you pay for Holiday and Middleton and Atlanta needs to make a difficult decision on Collins. Holiday played his best all around game of the playoffs. Hit shots, 13-2 assist to TO ratio and was aggressive to the hoop. Middleton 26 points 13 Reb? Outstanding.

I could be really wrong but when they showed Young in warmups he’s not close to 100% and not sure if he’s even close to game 6. A bone bruise is not a short term injury. Giannis? Just me but I sense a game 7 Willis Reed moment assuming Atlanta wins game 6.

What’s surprised me in this series is that the defensive intensity has not carried over from game to game. I sense that both teams legs just have not recovered from 2 long series prior and the mental grind with your stars out. It’s also possibly the reason for the inconsistent shooting, can’t elevate on shots.

Cross fingers Bucks find way to steal game 6 in ATL and move on.

With Giannis what danger is he in doing more damage to the knee if he plays? Is it just like they said on TV it's more about how much pain he can deal with in playing?

What Miller said on TV last night was a bit irresponsible. He had no access to the MRI and knowing the extent of the injury. His comments were based on the fact Giannis was on the sidelines on his feet so there’s that.

I doubt the medical people would sign off on Giannis playing tomorrow. That would be stupid. I'm not even holding out hope that he's back before it's all over. If it does happen where he comes back, I hope it's done with the full agreement with the medical staff, not because anyone involved in the franchise feels it's necessary for a win. His health is more important than any ring, or tin trophy.

I have this "fairy tale" thought in my mind that the Bucks win game 7 against Atlanta, then split the first 4 with the Suns, and Giannis comes back for the last 3, and the Bucks use their new strike offense with him integrated into it in a limited way, and sweep the last two to win it all in 6. That would be winning, under adverse conditions. They'd have earned it.

Then I wake up, and think it's even worse than a long shot this could happen.

i like your "fairy tale" dream. but if the bucks can manage to get past the hawks and split the first four games with the suns (all without giannis), i'm not sure the bucks would risk bringing him back even if the docs blessed off on it. maybe if the bucks were down 2-3 they might consider it.

I agree that Saturday is unlikely for Giannis and Young has about a 20% chance of playing based on that shot of him in pregame. The press release from the Bucks was a bit vague "no structural damage". Good news no tear and no crutches and full weight bearing but could be some bruising also and thats not a short term recovery

I am pretty confident that they know the long term risk now, too much at stake.

Without Giannis, the Bucks offense reminds me of a military operation. A strike force. They were relentless going to the hoop, and it totally caught the Hawks flat footed. Even the halftime adjustments the Hawks made did little to keep the Bucks from the inside game.

This is what I envisioned the Bucks playing, even with Giannis. I saw them as a team that would fire up 3s, but their work in the area of the paint would set them apart. That's where they can force teams to foul them, and keep them off balance. We have the ball handlers to make it happen.

At last, my vision of what the Bucks seem to really be, is emerging. I'm hoping to see a repeat of the intensity in Atlanta on Saturday. It's gonna be one helluva game!

Atlanta adjusted? Possible but not really noticeable. They neglected Collins in the post, only played Gallo 23 minutes even though he had a mismatch and was shooting well? Head scratcher. The Bucks ran the same / similar sets that they ran in games 2 & 3. Feed the paint and allow Holiday to use his size. For whatever reason they abandoned that in game 4. Last night was like watching tape of game 3 sans Giannis.

To your point on intensity. I mentioned earlier that it has not carried over on either side from game to game which is odd in a conference finals. This comment from Collins is telling. This is a guy who is their #2 option playing for a max deal.
