It's just money. Tepper can afford to pay a half dozen "ex HCs" huge salaries and it won't ruffle his petty cash fund. To him, it's just a tax write off. Maybe he believes they can catch lightning in a bottle? Hard to tell with him and his people.

His hedge fund operations net him a paycheck of over $1.5 billion in his pocket every year. So, like I said, tax write off. He could keep the whole state of Wisconsin warm by burning $100 bills in wood stoves.
 
I think longer contracts are kind of the norm now? HC want protection from when crazy guys like Tepper fire them after a few years
 
The Packers not signing anyone already as DC tells me they aren't concerned about it because the person they're looking at is not in high demand. Just a guess, but seems reasonable. All these signings seem to be following a similar pattern.

Or the person they want is still on a team in the playoffs and can't speak to them.
