Badgers upset by Washington State

And then we stubbornly went back to the offense that wasn't working instead of continuing last 10 minute offense of first half.

I get it, you see it differently.

But, I saw the offense the coaches wanted to run getting stuffed, and the coaches not willing to or unable to try something else.
And the majority of long drives got stopped with penalties UW had a 17 minute advantage in TOP, ran for 174, 401 to 253 in yards. They moved the ball. 2 missed FG, 1 fumble deep and 11 penalties for 106.

The Badgers failed because they blew themselves up with penalties, couldn't kick the football, and had absolutely no discipline in their game. They have at least one of these every year, and it's frustrating.

The Badgers are a quality program - why can they not recruit a quality kicker. Those missed FGs were the difference in the game, and they were not even close.

The o-line is a work in progress, but even if they were better, running into an 8 man box all day won't be successful against better teams. Sure, you can pound away and make it work against the weaker teams, but even in years past with a better line, the lack of a passing game was their kryptonite. They also better find some discipline on o-line and cut out those penalties.

Until they get better QB play and better talent at WR along with a more diverse passing attack and gameplan these kind of games will keep happening. Scoring zero points against a decent but not exactly top-level WSU team is simply unacceptable.

Engram was brought in to re-vamp the offense and call plays. If Chryst is interfering he needs to stop and let Engram and his young receivers sink or swim. They can't get better until they stop this "run-run-pass" predictable offense. You gotta force teams out of those 8-man boxes. Running on first down 90% of the time won't get it done.

The question isn't so much as to whether or not Engram is allowed to call the plays, or if we're seeing Chryst deciding which plays should be practiced, and used, thereby making the offense as stale as it was before Engram arrived.

That's probably the biggest problem.... I'm just guessing here..... ;)

Just spitballing here but to revamp the offense you need weapons on the outside and trust in your QB. PC made reference to a few plays where Mertz pushed the ball deep and there were options open underneath. I’m not convinced the staff has the confidence in Mertz to make the throws and they run the ball to stay on schedule and not be forced into 2nd and 3rd and long. Now you have to run the ball to do that so pick your poison. Other than Dike they are basically all in year 1 in the system

Good points.

One more number
Wisconsin rushed for 174 yards. Penalties wiped out runs of 26, 16 and 12 yards. Also wiped out a 25-yard pass play.
They moved the ball

Over 1/3 of their forward progress wiped out by penalties. You can't live with 2 steps forward, and one step back. Drives die with the penalties. Especially if you don't have real play makers in the passing game.
