2023 Badger Football Thread

Getting Nick Evers is a dynamite grab for the Badgers. We can start seeing WRs who have size, speed, and the desire to play in the NFL jumping onboard with the Badgers.

This, to me, should give their rankings, on recruiting, one helluva boost.

I watched this kid play twice in high school, and he is amazing. People are not going to believe what they see, the moment they turn him loose on the field. He can do it all, and has the foot speed, to create so much more for the offense.

I'm really getting excited for next season. And he has all four years of eligibility. WooHoo!!!!

Fickell and his staff are coming in and hitting the ground running and hitting HR's getting guys to commit to the program right away. I just never see PC/JL ever doing this and getting guys from transfer portal to come to UW. Seems that they were more interested in the home grown talent then using the portal to fill needs.
The “more interested in home grown talent” is not accurate. Last 2-3 classes the majority of commits were from out of state. I posted the numbers in some other thread. And just for reference Mertz was the #3 pro style QB when he was out of HS. Some kids pan out some don’t and recruit rankings are subjective (stars).

As to Evers hope the kid works out

Timing is everything. Not sure he commits if Criswell chooses UW over Arkansas. Nice get

The biggest difference, for openers, between Evers and Mertz is foot speed. Evers has that speed to make plays.

That's something that doesn't show up until you see it happening. At the level the Badgers play, it becomes more evident that it's needed. It's why OSU is constantly successful. A QB who is dynamic can tilt the field in your favor.

I think they were after one of the two. The first one signed was who they'd go with. To be honest, I think this is a better catch.
(Criswell vs Evers)

Sorry, but that narrative is also not fully accurate. UW under PC spent a ton of time looking for preferred walkons from in-state to fill gaps. PC hated recruiting, despised the portal, and just wasn't going to do it.

I get that but the majority of the last 3 classes were not instate

That’s accurate. My point was how they were ranked. Evers is probably a better passer, Criswell more with the legs. That said I am all for a QB who can make plays with his legs.

Personally, I like the QB who can use the legs when necessary, and by design at times, but is more proficient in the passing game. I don't want a QB who likes to tuck and run more than they have to.

For your edification, Criswell is not as fast as Evers, so even that might not be an issue of his being a better runner than Evers.

Sorry! I'll take Evers over Criswell because he's quicker, and may well be a better passer.

Guess Evers was at UW during a day the team was holding a bowl practice and the WR's worked on him to sell him to UW.
