2023-24 Milwaukee Bucks Season Thread

5 game win streak for the team. Hopefully this is sign the players and coach are finally starting to gel and get use to each other and how to play with each other.

Hopefully they can start to learn some D though. Right now only 7 teams with a worse PPG given up each night. Though in retrospect there are only 2 teams scoring more PPG then the Bucks themselves.

Griffen came in with an iron fist, the way it appears. The blow was the fall-out between him and Stott, who has always been known as a players coach. After that, the players started taking the initiative to have frank discussions with Griffen on what they thought was needed. That includes the discussion that Lillard had with him about playing the entire first quarter, so he can get the feel for all the rotations the opposite team has. As he described to Griffen, it helps him set the table for the rest of the game.

Apparently Griffen has listened. Of course, when you play that many minutes, it's imperative that the other four guys on the floor step up on defense, because Dame can't run himself ragged, and stay out there. So, we can expect a little bit less D in that stanza. But, since this started, guess what? The Bucks have been winning.

Let's hope this line of communication between players and coach continues in a positive way. If it does, it could be a highly successful year. If not? I don't even want to talk about it.

Even though it was *far* from a great game, Lopez tied his all time high with 39, and for the first time in the Bucks' history they had 3 30+ point scorers. Nice.

We did win, so I can't complain about that. :)

You're right. Great to win. Amazing having 3 over 30. Lopez showed he still has what it takes to score, when it's needed. Awesome display.

But, the last 3 minutes were a total disaster in so many ways. The Bucks squandered what should have been an easy win. They totally let the Wizards back in the game, and Griffen was as deeply involved in the problem, making it worse.

Up by 7, 3minutes to play, you don't go for quick shots. Fortunately Lopez bailed them out. When you're up by 3, and the clock is winding down, you don't shoot 3s! You just don't! You work the ball inside, where you're shooting over 60% for the game. A two, or a pair of free throws, is good enough to make it a two-possession game. You don't put the ball in Giannis' hands with under a minute, and a two or three point lead. You just don't. He's a 60% free throw maker. You put it in the hands of Dame, or Connie. Even though the strangest thing happened, both of them missed free throws and Giannis made a pair.

You also need to either foul hard, or let the guy go, when driving to the bucket, when you have a narrow lead. On two occasions, under a minute and a half, guys fouled someone who made easy lay-ups, and turned them into 3s, and it nearly cost us the game.

These are things coaches can't allow to happen. When the first one happened, there should have been a lot of talk from Griffen about not allowing it to happen again.

I'm not a bit enthused about Griffen's coaching style. I don't think he really has control of this team. I think the team controls him, and the problem is, his input isn't significant enough to help them play more as a team than individuals.

I have no confidence in this team moving forward. They could win 55 games this year, and still get blown out of the playoffs in their first round played. They are too inconsistent, and don't play smart, like a winner should.

I'm not certain Griffen will make it past the All Star break. He's a horrible coach. The players know it, and are all starting to voice their opinion. He needs to be sent packing now, not at the end of the season. They need to bring Stotts back, and let him get the players on the same page, playing defense, and working together on the floor.

I still believe it's what cost Stotts his job. He knew the Griffen coaching decisions were screwing up this team. Even now, the regulated minutes for Middleton has turned into a joke. He's ready to go. Let him play. Quite pretending he's fragile, because he's not.

They're going nowhere with Griffen. Bring back Stotts. Let him iron things out with the players, who obviously like him, because he's a player's coach, who knows how to keep them all on the same page. If they don't, this team is not going to be a challenger for championships for a long time.

Giannis scores 64 points setting a new career high. But after the game is what the big story is. Pacers took the game ball claiming they wanted it for some no name rookie who scored his 1st point. No one buys the story as the Pacers were made they got lit up in the game. Giannis says he got ball back but thinks it was switched out for the backup ball as he says it feels new.

Also in the game Lillard becomes top 5 player for 3 pointers made.

It was an amazing game! Full of technicals and ejections and flagrants, oh my!

Bobby got ejected defending Giannis after someone rather tossed him to the floor. Well, that was the first tech and he was tossed shortly there after. Jae was holding Thanasis back from rushing to Giannis' defense. Then after the game there was the big kerfluffle as Giannis, Thanasis, and Jae went rushing down the visitor tunnel to their locker room to try and get that game ball back. Giannis said they wanted it for Lillard.

Giannis also set the francise record with his 64 points, passing the 57 points set by Michael Redd in 2006.

Oh, and of his 64 points, none of them were from 3's. He also made something like 24 free throws out of 32 attempts (not positive about those numbers).

That Pistons team is outright bad. 23 losses in a row now and MKE was up 24 already in the 1st and kept that lead the who game winning by over 30. Pistons could go for NBA losses record. In one season the record is 26 and total that happened over 2 seasons is 28.
