ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Although there was initial optimism that Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Jameson Williams might be available in time for training camp, head coach Dan Campbell doesn't anticipate that happening as Williams continues to heal from his ACL injury.
"I don't see him being ready for training camp. I don't see that," Campbell said. "I'm very hopeful, but I don't see it. We're going to do this thing the right way and when he's ready, he'll be ready. But, no, I don't feel like you're going to see him out there Day 1."
Since he tore it in National Title game I would be shocked if he does not end up on PUP to start the regular season.Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell not expecting rookie WR Jameson Williams (ACL) to be ready for training camp
And he might go to IR after that, unless he’s a remarkable fast healer.Since he tore it in National Title game I would be shocked if he does not end up on PUP to start the regular season.
Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson is expected to face discipline in the coming weeks over the dozens of sexual misconduct allegations against him that have surfaced over the past year-plus. His union is arming itself to wage a high-powered, gloves-off battle on his behalf.
The NFL Players Association is preparing to vigorously defend Watson against his looming suspension, people familiar with the matter said. The union has retained prominent lawyer Jeffrey Kessler on behalf of Watson in the case, a move the union typically makes for its most significant and contentious issues.
It’s a situation that’s sensitive and precedent-setting. It also could quickly become uncomfortable in numerous ways.
Watson, one of the league’s top young players, faces civil lawsuits from 24 massage therapists accusing him of sexual harassment and assult during sessions. The breadth and nature of the allegations has placed significant pressure on the NFL to come down hard on the quarterback, who has denied any wrongdoing.
Watson’s is the first major personal conduct case under the 2020 collective-bargaining agreement between the league and its players, which set a new process that shifts some power from commissioner Roger Goodell to a jointly approved arbitrator.
The new process is why the union is particularly focused on the hearing because cases now have a neutral arbitrator, one of the people said. The case is seen as a preview of how future disciplinary cases could play out.
The person added that the union’s case will include comparing whatever discipline Watson receives to how the NFL has treated owners, including the Washington Commanders’ Dan Snyder, who have been accused of misconduct.
Kessler, who declined to comment on any of his work for the NFLPA, is a sports labor lawyer best known for helping bring free agency to the NFL. He won a 9-0 Supreme Court decision establishing that the NCAA had violated antitrust law by imposing strict limits on athlete compensation.
Shows you how bad QB pool in NFL is that teams are willing to deall with bad PR to trade for him and be willing to lose him up to a full season to have a good QB after that.I can't believe he got traded and signed with this stuff hanging over him. Magical thinking by all parties.
It’s border line management malpractice. How they did not do background work (maybe they did) with a player friendly contract.I can't believe he got traded and signed with this stuff hanging over him. Magical thinking by all parties.
