Brewers 2022 Season Thread

And one other thing that holds guys back is attitude. Especially at that level. He was with the Chicago organization for what 8 years, 4 at the AAA level, had his opportunity whatever the reason so moving from team to team is a bit oversold. He’s 29, not some 21-22 year old with upside.
He was a rule 5 draft pick, not a regular pick. He also couldn't have been in the White Sox organization for 8 years as you claim, because the Sox didn't even get him until 2017.

As for where he played, you might want to take a better look at his minor league stats, and you'll find he was moved from location to location on a regular basis, but still ended up a .291 minor league hitting. The wrap on him was that he was a defensive liability behind the plate. That said, his play behind the plate, and hitting, was consistently better than others.

In the Major League portion of the Rule 5 Draft, players not on a 40-man roster, plus who were signed at age 19 or older and have been in professional baseball for four years were eligible to be selected.

Then there's the fact that Yermin's early years of pro ball were pretty much confined to leagues in the Caribbean, not in the states. Big difference there. Go ahead and put any spin on this that you'd like, but read what the Rule 5 Draft actually was, where he was picked by the Sox.

I am very familiar with the Rule 5 Draft. I digress. And correct it’s not 8 years my bad. And as in noted I read incorrect information from about site as to his draft / rule 5 pick

As to being moved from location to location, he’s been has been at Charlotte, the Sox AAA location for the previous 4 seasons with a brief stint in Birmingham. So his big league time since 2017 has been in the Chicago organization, and other than being sent to Birmingham or his call ups he’s been at Charlotte.

It’s not spin. He’s 29, took 4 years to see the bigs except for brief call up. Sure his stats are solid but it’s not the first time or the last some kid hits HOF numbers at AAA and the jump does not work. Chicago has a few days to deal him or release him. He only has 1 minor league option left so you need to make sure he’s someone who can contribute on offense based on his defensive skills. Would I deal for him? Probably for a low level prospect but that’s it.

One other factor could be service time which has been a point of contention between MLB & MLBPA and rightfully so.

Mercedes has been at the AAA level for 3+ years. His issue seems to be from all accounts his position not his bat. Until this year his options were in the AL. With the DH now universal will some NL club make a move. I guess by the 19th we will see. Carry on

Thing is this guy seems not to have much value if he was put on waivers seems it will be for pennies on the dollar if he is traded

Guy I am surprised Brewers keep protecting in rule 5 is Corey Ray. But for a game here or there he's spent entire career in minors and looks like a huge bust from what they talked him up to be. When he was drafted was projected to be top prospect in Brewers system I don't think he's even top 10 in a weak Brewers farm system.

I think some team will offer something he's worth a A or AA lottery ticket prospect I think.

Though will Brewers recent struggles and losing 9 of last 10 wonder if they will make a move to do something before next deadline. Their farm system is junk and would they give up one of their top 1 or 2 top guys they do have to make a move?

Depends on payroll. If it’s a significant add doubtful
