It was a playoff contender. They were in it until game 160. The bullpen is not as strong , that’s a given but I’ll take this rotation. And we have discussed the hitting like beating a dead horse. Batting average is only one metric. The Yankees are only hitting 242, Tampa 240, Seattle made the playoffs hitting 228.

Only reason they were playoff contender was because MLB added a 3rd playoff spot. This team is not playoff quality not when you are only a few games above .500

And they are on a similar pace to 2019 when they won the WC before expanded playoffs. So if they’re not “playoff quality” now clearly they were not then either.
