NIL - Texas style

Right now I think will be hard to poach any teams from other power 5
No P5 school is getting poached. They will split and form their own “association”. The only question is will any G5 schools join the party

HOw do you form it though will be a fight to form as each conf will want the best and not be stuck with a poor conf with them

Guess who organized and runs the CFP’s ? Not the NCAA but the P5 conferences. It’s not rocket science. Keep geographic integrity, don’t mess with long standing rivalries and balance. Balance means more TV money. It’s more consolidation than anything else

Saban lost me at “bring back parity”.
"It's not supposed to be something where people come and make money and you make a decision about where you go to school based on how much money you're going to make." - Saban

Anyone else see the irony in a Head Coach, making millions, saying this? I'm not up on all this NIL stuff because but seems that some can make money and others can't. I don't have the grasp on it like most in here because I couldn't care less about it. Kinda like Hollywood and movies. They can eat their own and live with the consequences. It's been a dirty business for a long time and certain people held all the power. Now the power seems to be shifting but it still is all about the power. Who has it, who doesn't and who wants it. I don't know what's gonna happen but it'll either blow itself up before it either gets "fixed" or goes away, or god forbid, bureaucrats get involved and we go down the legislation and litigation trail. Like the old Packinatl liked to say, "It's all just entertainment to me"....that's my feelings exactly at this point.

The gorilla in the room is your paying freshman recruits with zero body of work at the D1 level. Is that 5 Star QB going to be Dayne Crist, Ryan Perrilloux, or Mitch Mustain or Jimmy Clausen or is he going to be Joe Burrow. The list of 5 Star QB busts is LONG. Last I looked Georgia won a natty with a walk on QB. Look at DJ Uiagalelei @ Clemson with his NIL deal with Dr Pepper. Hell the list of 5 Star busts at any position are long

Point is “buying “ kids via NIL is similar to NFL FA. Teams overpay and results? Collectives don’t have the luxury of funding like the NFL. They are funded by individuals who are businessmen who don’t like losing money on bad investments. The NFL is payed obscene $$ by networks to fund payroll at zero risk to the owners pocketbooks. NIL is the new toys to play with. Now it’s just legal.

Are collectives here to stay ? Yes. Is NIL here to stay ? Yes. Will the amount of money collectives raise stay the same? Who knows. If it helps win championships yes. If It helps teams go the Dukes Mayo or Tampa Bay Bowl (Formally Outback) will it ? The unknown. Will some booster at Spyer Sports or Phil Knight at Division Street think his investment is better suited to buy out the HC because he’s not winning?

The pressure is on guys like Sark and Napier and Jimbo now. They better win or the seat gets really hot, we bought you this so what in the wide world of sports is happening that we are not winning championships. If Lincoln Riley wins at SC or Harbaugh wins at Michigan without a collective make some folks rethink this? Maybe just maybe the Pete Carroll / Reggie Bush NIL works just as well.

The SEC has been acting like the Gambino crime family for decades. Bobby Lowder openly bragged about buying kids for Auburn, some stories are legendary. But the NCAA turned its head because the blue bloods of college sports make then money so no chance they go after them. Look at recent FBI investigation with Kansas, and Duke and Arizona. Hell what came about with that is Bill Self got a lifetime contract, Sean Miller got a new gig at Xavier with no damage.

Heck most teams I think today could get away with murder in NCAA don't think you will ever see another SMU death peanlty

Only the blue bloods. The SMU situation was multiple violations over years.
