Post Game Thread : Packers Knock Off Giants 23-16

Played a lot of 2-deep safeties, and the giants only had one running play of over 10 yards. Other than the TFL I saw Dix pick up on the blitz, the safeties were doing their work limiting YAC while not letting the giants get anything deep. It's something Dallas can exploit in the fact that they can actually run the ball. It'll be a good week to get Pennel back.

We actually didn't play two deep safeties despite what they said. When they each had 6 tackles, most near the line of scrimmage, it shows that we were actually dropping a nickel or dime back into the deep slot. It's actually more of a play on words, because it was actually two-deep. I think the announcers missed how they were playing it. In fact, if you watch the replay of the game, you'll even see one of our safeties covering down into the under 10 yard zone for middle passes. I honestly thought it was great seeing a complete departure from what we have done constantly.

What was the deal in Rodger's interview when he said something like "After practice last week I was surprised that Cobb got so many opportunities". ???

I mentioned it a few weeks ago that Aaron is not the Aaron that we've become used to (on and off the field) the last decade. If he'd have said that about Davis or Janis, sure. But Cobb? If he's really being truthful, someone should have asked him about forcing the ball to Jordy. 2 picks and 3-4 drops? That's not the type of production AR is usually ok with.

I don't think Rodgers trusts any of his WR's outside of Jordy so he's forcing throws to Jordy. If this is happening MM needs to nip it and tell him get over it and start using his other WR's.

Seriously.

It was so. very. strange. After he says the crap about Cobb's week in practice, then he goes on and on about Cobb being so tough and one of his good friends.

I mean, it's obvious that the players (and coach) are pissed off at the media and determined to shut everyone out. Could that be the explanation?

Sure sounds like Cobb may have been limited by injury/illness during the week. He followed his statement up with how tough Cobb is and how proud he is to have him as a friend and teammate. If Cobb was injured and not listed that is a problem. Team can get in trouble for that.

Hmmmm. I am trying not to argue the same points already made. So I'll try the 'other hand'....
Yes, ARod was missing throws he usually makes, but thankfully so was Eli.
Yes, our WRs weren't getting separation, but thankfully NY never hardly rushed more than four guys.
Yes, we didn't do crap after half time, but thankfully NY was just too far behind to catch up.
Yes, our defense has been awesome against the run, but we haven't faced a starting RB this year (except for AP for a half before the 'FACK' took him down) Names like Yeldon, Riddick and Darkwa.
Yes, it felt the same watching this game just hanging on, but we did get a W.

I'm not going to hammer ARod, he is still a very good QB. He's just not the Superman he played like for about 4 outstanding years. I'm going back to my favorite- MM. His system has been figured out. Opposing DBs run our routes with the WRs! The only time you see separation is the first four steps and Lord knows we are NOT going to rely on a quick rhythmic tempo. Our 'deep' shots last night were nothing more than individual Hail Mary's. One of our deep shots had two WRs within 10 yards of eachother so the Safety could cover both, 50 yds down the field! We might enjoy success in the first half, but then the opposing team seems to make ADJUSTMENTS and we play not to lose. I feel safe in saying that not one of you watching the game didn't say "Here we go again" at some point in the 3rd quarter. Thank God that Mason Crosby is money this year.

I hope we can get one of our starting CBs back this week. Hoping Pennel can come back to clog the middle, but how big is he after 4 weeks away? It would be nice to see us play 4 full quarters of football, it hasn't happened yet this year. That is clearly on the coaching staff. IMO.

Welcome to Packer 2016 football. Get used to it. Gonna be ugly but should be a winning season.

I wish the offense played with even half the intensity the defense does.

Arod, Lacy, good defense, and an oline playing above their level. GB should look much better than they do.

TE has to be #1 on draft/off season priority list. GB really misses a good TE.

Someone needs to smack Arod. He's off. Plain and simple. Someone needs to smack MM his offense is stale and it shows. Plain and simple. Capers is saving both their butts this year.

The bolded statement is true. I'm adjusting my expectations and just trying to enjoy each game as it is. It's not gonna be the high flying team we seen in the past. I worry that we see some of the same tendencies popping up as far as WR's and separation, second half stagnation, etc. Not sure what's wrong with AR but I guess it's another matter of adjusting my expectations. He's not all-world like he once was but he's still a very good QB in this league.

Do you have to list a player as injured if he is just sick and not physically hurt?

But AR has been missing throws for 12 games now. (Almost a season) Big problem.

Yes, we didn't do crap after half time, but thankfully NY was just too far behind to catch up.
But this has been happening consistently for 3 out of 4 games this season. Big problem.

Agree with this statement, Dubz.

Wins can be deceiving. We can win like this in the regular season but not in the playoffs. See the last 4 years in the playoffs for the Pack.

So this is my take:

MM- As we have continued to discuss on this thread, MM's offense is stale. He does not game plan against the opponents defense and does not make adjustments in the second half. This is why we continue to barely win games and play not to lose. He also continues to not use WR's he has on his roster (7 by the way) when he has them at his disposal. I can see a couple not being ready to play but Abby, Monty, and Janis have in-game experience as well as playoff experience. They also have proved they can get it done in the playoffs. bh(

WR's- They continue to not be able to get separation even against rookie CB's and average veterans. Part of this is there route running (I have seen some lazy routes over the last 12 games) but it also comes from MM not game planning and changing things up based on the defense. Crossing routes and slants were open against the Giants, proved by the first drive for a TD. But then after the first drive we went away from that. Lastly, we are not using our whole WR core as I stated above.

AR- He is not the player he was the last 4 or so years. He is not as accurate as he once was due to arm elasticity; however, I have also noticed he has horrible footwork. Did you notice in last nights game that even when not under pressure he is throwing off his back foot as well as jumping in the air when he throws? This could be a big part of the inaccuracy problem. That is on Tom Clements and not being detailed with AR. Lastly, he continues to look for the big play. ALL THE TIME! He also does not look at any other WR's besides Jordy, Cobb, and Adams. He needs to spreads the ball around. This is what makes Tom Brady head over heels better then Arod is Brady's want and ability to throw to all WR's and take what the defense gives you.

I welcome comments and rippage. hof(
