Obviously, the higher the tender, the greater the chance it will keep suitors at bay. On the other hand, the higher the tender, the greater the impact on the salary cap.

Tonyan will get the 1st round tender. No team is going to give up a 1st round pick for him IMO.

Based on what we had been seeing at TE over the last few years, and the game that Tonyan is bringing to the position, the difference between the first and second round tender tells me you go with the #1. If you're going to lose him to someone, at least let's make sure we can get the best possible pick possible. At this point, $1.4 mill against the cap is chicken feed by comparison.

Better yet, sign him to a 5 year deal where it's cap friendly over the first year, to eat up less money today, and is more easily offset from years ahead, where there will be more cap room.

I like the idea of an extension over a 1st or 2nd round tender.

Lock him up long term NOW, so you aren't having to deal with it again next year when his asking price could be even more if he has another year like he did in 2020.

Remember we have cap issues this year extending him might not be possible this season and might have to wait until next year when the cap goes up. A long term deal with prorated SB and base salary could be above the 1st or 2nd round tender tag.

Right now as a player as strange as it sounds, a 1 year deal actually is more beneficial. I get the risk / reward injury thing but fact is 2022 cap is going to be like hitting the lottery with the new TV deals coming up

I like Tonyan and the team obviously will keep him around but o think the gaudy TD number belie an inconsistent player. He’s not a consistent chain mover or receiver between the 20’s. He’s not in the same class as the best TEs in the league. I don’t know what to make of his long term prospects.
