Rams dismantle Vikings

That’s not completely true, didn’t the refs call a penalty on the vikings after a scoring review against the packers recently?

Why non-call on Sam Darnold safety is not a reviewable play

Fouls like facemasks are not reviewable, per official NFL rules. It was not called in the moment, and Minnesota could not enact a review for the officiating crew to throw a flag retroactively.

The officials did not confer after the non-call, though the Vikings were irate, including Darnold, O'Connell, and star wide receiver Justin Jefferson.

Among plays that are reviewable are:

  • Play situations
  • Plays involving possession
  • Plays involving touching of either the ball or the ground
  • Plays governed by the goal line
  • Plays governed by the boundary lines
  • Plays governed by the line of scrimmage
  • Plays governed by the line to gain
  • Number of players on the field at the snap
  • Game administration and consultation
  • Disqualification of a player
Facemask penalties cannot be called retroactively after a review.

Reviews can be used to determine whether or not an incorrect call was made for roughing the passer, intentional grounding or unnecessary roughness for forcibly contacting a runner when he is out of bounds.
