Postgame thread: Packers Lose To The Lions 24-14

What a crappy showing. Detroit came out with swagger, the Packers responded by wasting almost every opportunity with self-inflicted, dumb mistakes. Detroit KNOWS it's the better team, GB hopes it's the better team.

My keys to the season:

Kicking game: McManus did not have a clean game but considering the conditions, he gets a half-pass from me on that one.

Run defense: Again, sort of "meh". They didn't let the Lions run wild like some other teams did, but giving up nearly 5ypc to Montgomery and Gibbs isn't great run defense.

Inexperience at QB: I'm a little hard on QBs including Love for INTs due to poor decisions and bad throws, when sometimes it's just bad luck or the other guy makes a great play, and that pick-6 yesterday had a little of all of that mixed in, but a big chunk of the blame for that one falls on Love. You aren't the league leader in INT's, despite missing over one quarter of the snaps due to injury, just because of bad luck or a defender making an outstanding play. Like someone else pointed out above, this is now part of the Jordan Love narrative nationally and he needs to find a way to kill that narrative.

Other observations:
Wicks needs to be held accountable for the coninuing drops. They claim to be deep at WR so maybe it's time for Melton and Heath to get a few of those snaps until Wicks can show that he can be more reliable. I don't know who to blame for the litany of stupid mistakes. It seemed better for a few games, but came back with a veangence yesterday. It's not just young guys making them. Double digit penalties again. Drops from everyone not wearing a Lions jersey. Bad snaps. Missed kicks. They pretty much found every way they could to make mistakes. The Lions didn't. Is it coaching, talent, locker room culture, youth, ??? Maybe it's all of that along with a team where too many guys were already making vacation plans for the bye week.

I am going to go back and re-watch the game tonight but I am willing to give Love the benefit of the doubt since he has been injured most of this season. Not been 100%.

There does come a time though where we have to look at this more in depth. The Packers o-line has given up 12 sacks through 9 games. I understand that doesn't count pressures but that is second in the league. We are 4th in the league in rushing and are averaging 5 yards per carry. For the interior of the line being meh and Walker being inconsistent, this o-line has played pretty well over the first 9 games. Also, Love seems to be very jittery in the pocket and is not mechanically sound right now. That's just my opinion but somehow this needs to get better.

The drops are a huge problem and continue to be. It's mainly Wicks and Doubs that have been the problem.

The pre-snap penalties are unacceptable. False starts, illegal shifts, jumping offsides, and illegal motions are happening every game.

Hopefully, McManus just missed that one today and doesn't get into his head.

Let's hope this bye week we evaluate some things including a self scout with the coaches and turn this around a little bit. We are 6-3 and have had a lot of injuries.

All the Packers need to be accountable for their mistakes - to each other.

When that happens, the Packers will have the culture some think they have and we all want them to have.

Right now, there's lots of excuses. The mistakes continue.

And, it's not because I want it to happen. They should want to do it for their teammates.

Green Bay needs to make a move before the trade deadline for a CB. Alexander is always hurt and Nixon and Stokes are trash neither of them belong on the field as DB's.

GB leads the league in drops 20, 4 of those led to Love INT. So you have to factor all that in. The OL has not been has good as people here think, our turnstile LT contributed to 2 more of those INT. So take 6 off the board and add in those 20 catches for yards and I believe it's 5 dropped TD and all the doomsday Monday morning stats look different.

The concern is the 3 sloppy games 2 of which GB could have easily won. Clean up the dumb stuff and this team is in the thick of things.

I don't understand how LaFleur can call such great games when Willis is playing but sometimes with Love they are discombobulated from the get go.
yes, this has been on mind as well. clearly the team has been much better prepared when they knew they would have willis at qb. why is that? do the coaches work harder to come up with a game plan? is it because the players know they have to play mistake-free football because the backup qb is in? or maybe using a limited game plan makes it easier for the players to execute the plays properly?

i don't know why, but we are 2-0 with willis at the helm, and 4-3 with love leading the pack. if willis doesn't start another game, and love continues on the same trend, the packers will win 10-11 games. hopefully that will be enough to make the playoffs, but i can't see them going very far in the playoffs.

Did Tom Brady break a NFL rule as a owner being critical of the refs or just a personal opinion?
