Post Game Thread : Denver Defeats GB 29-10

Well, it appears I was wrong and all the naysayers were correct. Every concern we had going into the bye week was exposed ever more in this game. Even with most of the guys returning from injury the flaws are still there. Granted we lost a couple guys on defense early, but they were getting gashed even before then. Experienced, quality QBs still have their way with us.

I figured we would struggle offensively against the best defense in the league, but I didn't think it would be that bad. There's no running game, WRs aren't getting open, and on the rare occasions that they do, Rodgers isn't hitting them. The lack of a seam ripping TE is very evident. Lacy didn't look any better for the week of rest and Starks is just a guy. We could try giving the play sheet back to McCarthy, but I doubt that makes a difference.

If we had gone in there and turned the ball over a bunch of times and lost because of that I wouldn't be as concerned, because nearly every team has a game like that. But even at 6-0 we saw the same things we saw last night, and an elite team just exposed those flaws even more. Very discouraging, and I don't have a clue how we fix it.

There was so much wrong with this game I'm not sure where to begin. I could probably go on and on and write a novel about all the things I'm worried about after this game.

It's one thing to lose and it's another to get destroyed. This was getting completely destroyed on both sides of the ball and at every level.

The QB play looked poor, the WRs couldn't get open, the oline was getting overwhelmed at times in the passing game and couldn't open holes in the run game. The backs couldn't make a play and our TE's suck.

On defense it was like our Dline didn't exist, our pass rushers couldn't get a finger on on a 40 year old statue, we have no run defense against one of the worst rushing teams in the league, our LBs and DBs can't cover. Palmer, Hyde, and Hayward particularly looked like ****. Palmer had the best Brad Jones imitation with his bad angles and arm whiffing tackles and hapless coverage that I haven't witnessed since seeing Brad Jones against Seattle. We went back to our weakness of the underneath passing area between the LBs and guys like Hyde where the TEs roam free and journeyman TEs look like the second coming of Tony Gonzales.

These weak spots never went away they have been there but I think the Packers have just gotten by in spite of them. And it looks like the Broncos actually scouted our D and said look guys Palmer/Hyde/Hayward suck, go after them every down. And it worked and then the whole defense fell apart.

Not going to blame the ENTIRE loss on 3 players, because again the DLine was **** and the expensive pass rushers did NOTHING, so this was a team loss.

I think Hayward is making the decision for the Packers rather easy whether to keep him or not. Jeez he looks awful, he looks NOTHING like the promising rookie from a few years ago. Wow, how is he the same player??? This wasn't his first bad game, he's been leaky all year. Randall wasn't great in coverage either, but at least he's showing promise as a rookie and got the only turnover of the game. Jason Whitt was praising Hayward like crazy this offseason, it was about how high his ceiling is if he can stay healthy. I haven't heard a word about him being hurt, he seems to just suck.


I dunno what quick fixes are there in the offense. They have been struggling off and on for weeks and again at every position.


To put things in perspective, Detroit's joke of an offense put up a much better fight then we did. Detroit scored 12pts and Stafford had 282 yards of offense. WTF does that mean for us?

Did not look like we were prepared for this game at all. Also seemed like our defense was believing too much of themselves for being the #1 scoring defense.


My optimistic side says maybe this is EXACTLY what the team needs. A true absolute 100% ass kicking, beat down complete embarrassment on national TV. This team has been getting by with some sloppy D, and the offense has been able to keep getting W's despite sputtering. Maybe they need a true kick in the ass to look themselves in the mirror and say, we need to get this stuff fixed or we are going to get our asses blown out of the post season before we know what happened.

It's possible they had the attitude, "If it aint broke don't fix it" because they still were undefeated. Now I hope they realize, "It's broke." Fix this **** ASAP.

Denver/Carolina/ARZ/MIN are all probably playoff teams. The meat of our schedule starts now, it's time for these guys to find out what's broken and get it corrected. I just hope it's correctable.


I want to say throw this game film in a dumpster and never look at it again because no way the Packers can look more pathetic than the Lions, but Denver took advantage of stuff that's been looking like a problem all season so I sure as hell hope they look at it coz every other coach in the league is going to try and run the same schemes so can't keep pushing these defects under the rug anymore.

The Packers coaching staff is one of the most stubborn in the league. Why would you use so many deep routes against a team that rushes the passer so well? Also, how about moving receivers around more? How about running more bunch formations? These receivers aren’t winning one on one. Help them out a bit?

One thing I seem to notice is that AR seems to not trust himself or his receivers as much as he used to. He made a name for himself being able to throw into tight windows. Now it seems like he won't make those throws. Guys are at times get a little separation but he won't make that throw. That said, I don't get the lack of separation we are seeing. Maybe my off-season needs thread should be modified to include a top-flite WR.

THIS is why you should be worried at least a little. They didn't just play a good game and lose to a better team. They didn't just get beat bad... They Embarrassed themselves capital E. They looked like Chicago.

Derek Carr put up 250 on DEN.... Josh McCown put up over 200 yards on them plus a couple TD's... This isn't just a loss. They had an extra week to prepare. And this is what you put out there?

Now, it's one game. And it's not a bad time of the year to suffer a loss. Especially a bad loss. And like someone else mentioned, thankfully it was against an AFC team. Now we see how GB responds. As for Arod, not sure what's goin on with him. I have jokingly said last year I thought that hooking up with Munn might distract him. Take out the KC game and he's been good, but not Arod the great like past years. But to be fair, Arod can't do much if the gameplan isn't good and the WR aren't getting separation. But on the other other hand I go back to what 57 said.

CAr will be tough too. Will be a good game to see how they respond to getting their a**** whooped. GB should still win the division. But even at 6-1 they have a lot to work on. Not the end of the world, and nothing to really panic over... yet

  • The Packers coaching staff got out coached. As simple as that. Both teams had two weeks to prepare and the Broncos came out on top.
  • This game was a disappointing reason to stay up late.
  • I’ve been pretty positive about things so far. To see the Packers come out of the bye without making significant adjustments to get guys open makes it hard to stay positive.

You hit everything on the head.

I would like to say this is one game as well; however, the WR's have had trouble getting open all year. Once again, we look for the 10 yard route or more downfield routes almost all night. You can't do that against a defense like this unless you are gouging them with the run. I said this before the game. Get the ball out of AR's hands quickly and get him out of the pocket. All we did was look downfield on a consistent basis and AR stayed in the pocket and held onto the ball. Collinsworth said it last night. Denver covered AR's first read and by then they were in his face. Not one slant. Not one RB screen. I just don't get it.

I know that it was stated here that AR's stats are similar to last years but this year is definitely different. There is something off with Rodgers. He is not getting the ball out of his hands, he is missing open WR's, and if they are not wide open he doesn't throw it to them. In the NFL, WR's are generally not wide open. Something is amiss here. To be honest, I think we may have to go back to MM calling the plays. Not sure Clements is good enough at this point.

On defense, the only one that showed up was Matthews. Everyone else was not prepared or thought we could just go through the motions. Once again, Denver did crossing routes all nigh long and we could not stop it. (Just like San Diego) I think it was asked why we did not jam the WR's at the line and get them off their routes. Good question. No adjustments were made. Disappointing.

Lastly, I am not optimistic about Carolina this coming week. There defense is very good too and the way our offense is playing right now, we could have another long day. Defensively, 500 yards two games in a row. Is the old defense back again?
 
One good thing about a loss like this is that the naysayers are gonna come out of the woodwork and start questioning Arod. Which should light a fire under him.

I just have not seen that fire from AR this year. It makes me wonder if it is Munn that's screwing him up. ;)
