Post Game Niners Defeat Packers 37-20 End Season.

I'm okay with the decision. However, I do wonder what happened between LaFleur's PC this morning, when he would not commit to keeping Pettine, and the decision to keep him.

Only thing I can think of is that ML cosidered that it was a total team failure against SF, that really his offense failed as much as the defense, and he didn't want to scapegoat Pettine for a collective failure.

Wasn’t ML scheduled to have a sit down with Pettine AFTER his presser where he wouldn’t commit?
If so, then I would have to guess the cleared the air with each other and moved forward.

Anyway, I’m guessing MP gets the 2020 season to prove “he” and his scheme will work in GB.

After that, all bets are off.

i imagine it went something like this:

ml: your defense sucked balls.
mp: your offense was garbage.
ml: yeah, you got a point. but at least i made adjustments at the half and we scored 20 points in the second half.
mp: yeah well i made adjustments at the half and we only gave up 10 points in the second half.
ml: yeah, you got a point. if only we would have made the adjustments before the game.
mp: yeah, if only...

I suspect ML and MP were not the only people in that room during that discussion

Realistically, we scored 20 points and they scored 10 points when they didn't give a hoot.

Why was ML surprised when his team didn't show up from the start of the game with enthusiasm - I mean it's not like they played with it all year. Coaches laid an egg. Head Coach usually doesn't get axed, but defensive guys not be fired up to hit somebody says a lot about the Coach who is supposed to be lighting that fire. I'm surprised we'll suffer Pettine again.

He(Pettine) was known as "Blunt force trauma". I was hoping that meant a few things, most importantly accountability and motivating the defense. Again, I'll give ML the benefit of the doubt on retaining Pettine but I sure hope we don't see the same types of issues crop up next year.

ML: Mike thank you for your last couple years in GB but I have decided to go in a different direction.
Murphy: Now hold on there Matt I think we should not be hasty I think we saw improvement on the defense this year. Also I think Mike would be willing to make some changes to his staff wouldn't you Mike?
MP: Yes I would sir.
Murphy: Well Matt that settles it for me we will keep Mike for next year but he will make staff changes that you and myself will approve.
ML: Ah ok sir

I think Pack and GBP4 are close to the truth. I suspect Murphy was involved in this somehow. Not sure he "told" ML to keep MP, but he might have argued for keeping him and ML isn't quite at a point in his career where he can tell them he gets to pick his own coaches or he'll walk. That day may come but he's not there yet.

Packers holes aren't as glaring as last year. They fixed the pass rush in the off season now fix the middle lb corps.

Offensively keep Bulaga and hope he takes a discount. Cut lane Taylor and Graham.

Find a tight end, #2 wr via free agency. They need impact starters at those positions.

Draft bpa - wr is stacked so. It's probably a wr but wouldn't mind dl, OT, MLB.

Packers have almost 45 mil (if they cut Graham and lane Taylor). Could get to 53 if they cut linsley if they really want to make a splash.

They have options. Will be an interesting off season.
