So much in the NBA is now determined by the "tier" a player is in. It pretty much dictates a salary range. To go higher, some team has to believe you can move up a tier to help their team, when it comes to grabbing free agents. What's crazy is the salary dumping trades for guys who were overpaid. It's epic!

Which is more a contract dump. It’s also system fit. Portis to NY is just a horrible fit
 
Totally agree. Portis could make up to $7-8 mill on a one year contract, but that would be pretty difficult finding. It would be someone who sees what he's doing in Milwaukee, and figures that's exactly what they need, and he'd be a fit. My guess is they can keep him by adding a couple mill next year, and giving him a players option for the following year, with a modest increase.
