I'm not quite certain that's true. I can see a scenario where the Packers would want to ease Love into the line up slowly, if Rodgers is a no-show. To do that, they'd need to use someone else when the season opens. That, in my opinion, could well be Bortles. If Rodgers does come back, they could continue using the idea that Love needed one more year to develop on the sidelines, because last year was a lost cause.
If they panic, and believe they need to show him as being the Rodgers back up this year no matter what, it could actually harm his progression.
I'm still a believer that a lot of QBs should get two years on the bench, without playing, refining their skills, and learning exactly what they need to do when they hit the field. I firmly believe that was what made Rodgers the player he became. Rushed, he might have lost his confidence, and a QB who has lost confidence is totally lost in the NFL. They'll eat them up.
I don't care what the fan base wants. I want another year of Love being prepared for a career in GB, not rushed in to show everyone they didn't screw up.
