2024 Draft Thread

Yeah those top schools have no problem to recurit and if they bring in 4-5 star kid 2 years later probably tell the kid either ok you are going to start for us next year or you now what it's not working out here we don't have a place for you to start so you should hit the portal. Nice problem to have you have so many talented kids you have to advise some to leave.
If you look at the portal today, those leaving are often kids that were highly recruited, then ran into a road block in college, sitting behind someone that's usually a sure fire candidate for the NFL draft. Often, someone with two years or three years of eligibility left, and there just doesn't seem to be enough wiggle room for them to take the field. The question coaching staffs need to ask themselves when it comes to scarfing up these 4 and 5 star kids (just a reference) is whether they were actually stuck behind someone and had talented, or were totally over-hyped in their ratings, coming out of high school. But, for coaches looking for talent, it's a step up from getting the left overs from the schools like Georgia, Texas, and Alabama, who have kids wanting to go there, even though they aren't going to be getting a boat load of money to do it. Of course, schools that are effectively getting these kids are convincing them when they recruit them that they have a very strong chance of reaching the NFL, if they play up to the ability the coaches see in them, and they will prepare them with every opportunity to reach that point. Rarely would a coach say that a kid could be a good "back up" for someone on their team.

Every day, down here in Texas, the people with big bucks, and there's a lot of them due to oil, are pooling more money to support their favorite school's athletic program, because they aren't going to let UT beat them in recruiting.

Please remember. Texas high schools have better athletic facilities for football than the vast majority of Division II football teams in college. In fact, they have better facilities than some schools, like Northwestern, who are DI.

Thing that seems to happen every school though is while they recurit you the next year they are going after a kid that is at the same spot you play. Feel sorry for these kids. They are sold a false bag of goods that the school wants them when they will move on from them at drop of a hat.

I would be down with this draft

I'd be good with this draft despite not being real familiar with several of the players. It does a good job of meeting all the needs for me - OT, S, RB, CB, DT, OG, WR in the early rounds.

Mims is interesting at OT. The Packers are likely no longer in the hunt for the top 2-3 tackles, but Mims has all the physical tools to be as good as any of them. He's probably being held back because he only started for one year and missed a handful of games with an ankle injury. Plus he played RT instead of LT - which isn't a problem for me.

I like the Sweat pick. They need another big body at NT/DT rather than another quick, penetrating type. They already have Wyatt, Brooks, and Wooden. Slayton is fine, Clark is getting older, and Ford is just a guy, so another BIG would be good.

It doesn’t really matter where GB finds one but the team desperately need a legit RB… it’s hard to run a good O using a FB for your #1 RB…

Dillon has fought and done what he was asked but he isn’t a viable RB for long term. So question here is what RB are there out there, doesn’t have to be high pick. That will fit the offense..
