2023-24 Milwaukee Bucks Season Thread

Would have likd to see a team have signed him to help him out. This would have been better to help a guy out like this for the Bucks then have a useless player like Giannis brother on the roster doing nothing.

Billionaires didn't get where they are by being good to people. They're ruthless, and their benevolence is in large sums to try to polish an image that's not what we'd hope for people. A lot of teams could have made that move, and been better for it, by giving good back to someone who's toiled so hard to be part of the program.

It's too bad they don't really perform up to the image they should with their franchises.

Just to play devil's advocate. Tony Snell, according to Spotrac, has signed NBA contracts over the past 10 years that were worth almost $50mil in guaranteed money, and he probably got more including the non-guaranteed money. The Bucks alone paid him $44mil guaranteed on a 4 year deal back in 2017.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the struggles for Tony with his kids and it would have been nice for him to get the insurance, but there are regular working people who need to manage his situation with far less resources. I wish him the best.

The Bucks/Mavericks game. That first quarter was horrendous. The Bucks didn't play any defense, and the Mavs couldn't miss a shot! They realized just how much Brook Lopez is needed to patrol the key. They failed miserably.

Fortunately, Rivers was able to find combinations during the second quarter that meshed, and they started using Giannis more on defense, around the bucket. In the second quarter, they turned it around, and made it a game.

The one glaring weakness again, was that Dame cannot, or will not, play aggressive defense. I have no idea why. They need to shuffle him down to playing D against the worst least likely person to score. Since there's only 3 options there, and teams know his weakness, they create mismatches through screens, that forces him onto shooters who burn him.

Giannis 48 points. Lillard 30. That's 78 of the 129 points scored. It's 60.5%. Combined, they shot 30 for 39. That's 77%. The rest of the team went 20-49, for 40.8%. From outside the arc, the pair went 7-10, and the rest of the team went 5-20, for a horrible 25%.

The Mavs are a good team. Any team would be with Doncic. He's an amazing player. He's going to get his points, I don't care if you put Godzilla on him. He's that good. But, for the first time this year, I saw the Bucks do something that they have needed to do. They would drop coverage onto Doncic on the inside. Despite his decent shooting night, which he usually has, going 13-26, he had 9 turnovers. It was simply because of how they ended up putting him in double teams.

There were good signs out there. Darned good ones, for the first time this season, as far as I'm concerned. They were at least hustling on defense. Now, if they keep that flow up when Lopez is back, they could start to show they have the tools to make some waves in the playoffs.

I won't judge them being back on 3 quarters though. They need to show it again and again, until they perfect their work on the defensive side of the ball. They also need to get better shooting out of the rest of the players in the rotation. We can't be caught where if Giannis or Dame have a bad night, we automatically lose.

I tired Bucks team, without Brook Lopez and Khris Middleton played darned good for 3 quarters, but playing the second game of a back to back on the road just plain wore them down by the 4th quarter. Utah did their job to make it happen by running their legs off.

I thought Doc did a good job with his rotations, and it's nice seeing that Green's got game, instead of him handing towels to others like Griffin had him doing.

In addition to his $53M in earnings, he has a current estimated net worth in excess of $30 million. He can afford health insurance. Not saying it would not have been nice for a team to sign him, but . . . .

he's going to have a rough time trying to qualify for obamacare.

Bucks lost again last night 5-5 in last 10 tied for 3rd in the East. I would not be shocked if this is a team that falls apart in second half of season and ends up a road playoff team.

That was a tough road trip, and lots of guys needing breathers. Without Lopez, we can see exactly how poorly we play defense inside, and how bad it is on the boards. Brook is an important part of this team, and all the talk about trading him is pure ignorance.

Giannis mentioned, I believe in an interview, that Doc has had them practicing hard, despite being out there on the road. I think he's trying to whip them into better physical condition so they can go into the playoffs stronger than anyone else.

But, I am concerned about the Lopez absence. Something doesn't smell right there. I have this horrible feeling there may have been a rift developed between him and Doc. After the last game Brook played, Doc made a comment in an interview that was kind of demeaning to Lopez, without his name being brought up. If Doc alienated him, and Brook wants out of there because of it, this season is in the crapper. Despite what anyone says, he's the glue inside the paint that makes this whole thing work. Giannis is the scorer inside, but Lopez disrupts the other team's inside game, and can score himself, when asked to do so.

Another piece of the puzzle that bothers me is Middleton. What's happening with him? He isn't shooting the ball. He isn't getting a lot of rebounds. He isn't getting assists. He isn't playing defense like we all know he can. It's like he has given up on being an integral part of the team's success. Something is seriously wrong there. Whether it's physical, or a mental problem because of what he might perceive as being second fiddle now? Whatever. It's a serious problem.

Horst has totally messed things up I'm afraid. I still believe he needs to be given his walking papers.

I said before and will say again. I think Middleton is a guy who's just broken down phyiscally and it was a mistake to resign him to the 3 years $100 million they gave him.
