WR have the read a secondary on more than broken plays. Not to be simplistic but they also need to read zone vs man and how a defense rolls coverage. Mark is much more educated on that part of the game.

Rodgers is much more athletic than Brady so he can create more, not at Mahomes level but Brady is snap , read , react and out.
It really depends on the scheme and how each team wants you to change up. 44blitz makes a great point on spread and RPO principals in that they teach their WR 4-6 basic routes and then move them into different slots and run combos. A lot and I mean a lot of spread coaches forbid their receivers from "running open". Many others have 3 guys running set routes and the 4th running an option route depending on what he sees. So many QB are easily
baited now by changing up coverage late.

As for GB, I believe for years Adams was the option WR with Rodgers and him shifting into a different route late, thus the billion delay of game calls... if you were the DC you just make a late shift in coverage that forces Aaron to counter what he called. 50/50 chance you louse up his play call that way.

2022 Training Camp Update: August 1st

Injuries:
OL David Bakhtiari (PUP-knee), K Mason Crosby (PUP-knee), OL Elgton Jenkins (PUP-knee), TE Robert Tonyan (PUP-knee), WR Christian Watson (PUP-knee), RB Kylin Hill (PUP-knee), DB Keisean Nixon (NFI-groin)

Not Practicing / Limited: WR Malik Taylor (shoulder)

Offense:

  • OL to start Team: LT Yosh, LG Runyan, C Myers, RG Hanson & RT Newman.
  • Miscommunication between Rodgers and Lazard. A ball goes to literally no one down the field. Free play looked like Kenny Clark jumped.
  • A few reps later, false start on Runyan.
  • Tom at LT with the 2s. No rest for the rookie.
  • Cole Schneider comes up gimpy after an inside run play. He’s out for now.
  • Jordan Love sneaks one to Samori Toure in the middle of the field on an in-breaker. Good pass and catch. Quick read off play action.
  • Beautiful rep by Zach Tom in run blocking vs Devonte Wyatt - got inside and completely sealed him.
  • Menet skies a ball over Loves head on a shotgun snap.
  • Rookie Romeo Doubs drops a high pass from Aaron Rodgers on a left cross. So he is human.
  • Drop by Lazard in the end zone on a slant in red zone drills - nice pass rush by Preston.
  • Watkins maybe touchdown late from Rodgers but prob would have been a sack first - Slaton and the DL with real push. Jaire tight coverage on Sammy Watkins. Sammy says he caught it. Jaire says no.
  • They decide to run it, and period finishes with a draw to Aaron Jones for a TD.
  • Taylor 2 carries for 6 yards.
  • Love incomplete to Dafney. Ball behind him.
  • Jones run for 3.
  • High snap from Michal Menet that soars over Danny Etling’s head.
  • Rodgers with a nice pass to an open Dillon down the seam for about 20. Dillon PHENOMENAL adjustment to catch it in stride.
  • Winfree on an in cut for sliding catch from Rodgers for about 12.
  • Couple quick-hitters to Winfree & Dafney.
  • Watkins for 12 over the middle.
  • Lazard sideline for 8. Tight window vs. Stokes.
  • Deguara for 20 up the seam. Impressive grab from Josiah Deguara who went up to get a high one from Aaron Rodgers.
Defense:

  • First day on OL/DL one on ones. Strong showing for Devonte Wyatt. Getting a chance to really see his power. Meanwhile, Rashan Gary was Rashan Gary.
  • Quay Walker making his presence known early on a run play. Quickly to the outside for a stud. A good run fit by Stokes as well.
  • Defensive front continuing to get an impressive push in first day with shoulder pads. Dean Lowry just got behind the line to bat an Aaron Rodgers pass. The pass rush has been quick in shorts during early portion of camp.
  • Jarran Reed forces a pressure on Rodgers, incomplete.
  • Hell of a job by Tipa holding the point of attack on a run by Jones. Marcedes was blocking him, that’s no easy task.
  • And then Tipa follows it up with a pressure off the edge, possible he may have been pushed passes the QB but his presence was felt.
  • Some confusion up front on the packers 3rd team OL but Heflin shoots through for a stop.
  • Jarran Reed eats some space. Good gap fit vs No 1 run.
  • And Jarran Reed does it again right after.
  • Isaiah McDuffie, SJC, and Rico Gafford with a few random reps with the ones already.
  • Now La’Darius Hamilton busts through the line for a run stop.
  • De’Vondre Campbell all over the run up in the middle. Stood up Aaron Jones in the hole. Great read by the all-pro.
  • Play-action pass to Lazard incomplete. Gary woulda had a sack, for sure.
  • This defense is so fast. They are making things so difficult for the offense. Run fits, pressure, coverage, rallying to the ball, speed - it’s all evident. Fun to watch.
  • Back-to-back plays, Jaire Alexander put on a clinic. First, keeping Lazard wrapped up so he couldn’t get to a pass, then causing Winfree to bobble a catch as he went out of bounds, ruled incomplete.
  • Rashan Gary would’ve sent Aaron Rodgers to Manitowoc during that move-the-ball period if he was allowed to hit the QB.
  • Akial Byers showing up with a pressure off the edge.
  • Rashan Gary just ran into the number 2 defenses huddle to fire them up. The leadership from 52 is real. Defense responds by giving nowhere for Love to throw.
  • Tipa and Hamilton just combined for a pressure in two minute drill against the ones. Great day for both.
  • Darnell Savage with a diving pass break up in red zone.
  • Amos jumped a Rodgers pass to Deguara, dropped INT. Offense has to settle for a field goal.
  • Rico Gafford PD to start two minute for twos. Throw from Love was a bit behind/
  • And very next play Gafford is right on Toure and stops him in bounds for a very very short gain. Throw was a bit behind again. Clock ticks.
  • Vernon Scott game winning pick in 2 minute drill on an awful decision from Love trying to go up the seam to Tyler Davis who fell down.
Special Teams:

  • Brkic goes 3 for 3 from 45L, 47L and 49R. Coco was the snapper.
  • Amari Rodgers on a punt return gets vertical right away for a nice gain. Lots of horizontal running last season love to see the change there.
  • Nice rep by Innes Gaines as a gunner on punt coverage.
  • As a jammer on punt return; Innis Gaines just jammed Donte Vaughn into the upside down. Gaines was jacked up after the play.
  • Pat O’Donnell just crushed a punt and there were some ooo’s to be heard. He’s been impressive so far.
  • First fight of camp is gonna be Rich Bisaccia and someone on special teams. Kids covering their ears all across Green Bay.
  • Brkic goes 2/3 on his next set of FGs. Misses way left from 46, then hits from 50 and 52.
  • Ones two minute ends with a Brkic 28 yard FG.

Practice has ended after 1 hr and 42 min.

Event:
Practice, August 2nd 10:30AM CT.

Interviews:

LaFleur
Presser:

  • Five days in a row of practice coming up. Explains LaFleur: That long of a stretch is concern, so will cut back a bit today; Wednesday will be jog-through. Friday is Family NIght. "It's going to be a little bit of a grind on our guys."
  • Matt LaFleur says about 90 percent of installation phase will be concluded by week's end. The week will conclude with Family Night.
  • Matt LaFleur says the offense won't be overhauled despite losing Davante Adams.
  • LaFleur says its tough for Christian Watson, because there's nothing like getting live reps.
  • Sammy Watkins will do some team reps today, per LaFleur.
  • The INT by Jean-Charles at the end of two-minute on Saturday indeed was incomplete, upon film review, LaFleur says.

It's getting closer. Time goes by real fast.

Love seems to be throwing behind guys. Ball placement man, that was my biggest rap on him.

If Rodgers does not retire after this year. Packers trade Love for a 5th or 6th rounder in off-season
