Oh sorry. No I don’t see it especially in the case of Mertz. Kids commit and stay where they are for multiple reasons. The portal is a nice narrative but #1 you better find a better program fit with need. The grass is greener concept applies.
 
One of the smartest things I have heard about UW football.
“Contrast Chryst w/Brohm today. Did Brohm look like he knew what his program was (rotating 3 QBs, run vs. throw, etc.)? Fans like to talk about making adjustments or what coaches should have done (in hindsight), but real value comes in knowing who you are”
 
Another UW player enters the transfer portal - offensive lineman Kayden Lyles. I can understand why, since he's a senior and was likely looking to start and add to his NFL resume. If that's his primary goal, I can understand why he'd want to have a year at another program to put some more "tape" out there for scouts.

I think UW will have a lot of things to look at in off-season kids that want to leave and kids they might tell it's best for them to leave.

Has he not had a bunch of injuries? Not sure he will be a guy that a team wants to draft might be a UDFA guy

This not going to be a mass exodus. Each year for the past 10-15, 2-3 kids have left the program for different reasons at the end of that year

That’s was not my point. The kid has started 14 games in Madison and that’s included the Covid year. And what talent has he had around him? Sure I want to see more progress but hell it’s been 14 games
