I believe we're going to see a 12 team playoff for the national championship. It stands to reason. Like they said, that would guarantee the conference champions from the big 5 to be automatic, plus a couple of others. That would leave room for 5 at-large teams, which would work for teams like Notre Dame, and some smaller conferences, who might have a team that is registering as talented enough to be there.

I've believed, for a long time, it was coming. I think it's an interesting concept, where you'd have first round byes, and a play in of the lower 8 teams for play in the quarter finals. That would mean 4 weeks of playoffs. I can see four bowl games getting the nod for the 8 teams being part of those games, and then three weeks following with fairly large national audiences.

This would mean a total of 11 games devoted to the playoffs. As for money? I have no idea how much it would add to the coffers of each playoff team, their conferences, and game wide for all teams. Packinatl would be the person with the best handle on that.

No worries, I figure to be running my 16 team setup again this year!

Particatpion Trophy era all teams make the playoffs! No one is left out.

Do the conferences want 12? Yep I think so. Will the university presidents go for it? That’s a dicey thing. Right now the agreement and TV deal runs thru 2025 @ $470m annual.

Have had this discussion with someone who’s plugged into the SEC and he thinks 8 will be the compromise

- Power 5 winners get automatic bids
- 3 At Large
Bowls
-Rose
- Orange
-Sugar
-Chick Fil A Peach
-Fiesta
-Cotton
-Champ Game rotation with LA in the mix

Price tag $$$. I have only a guess but I would say north of $750m annual but that just a wild guess

I say go to 8 that's big enough don't need more then that. Agree with Pack Power 5 conf winner gets auto bid then 3 at large

The issue is it wound add one more week to the season (college presidents hate that) and push the CFP into February just before spring practice.(coaches hate that) but it’s $$$ (networks like that) And if so what do you do with group of 5 conferences.

what I don’t like about 12? The 1 vs 12 and 2 vs 11 matchups will be bloodbaths and unwatchable. Probably even the 3/10 and 4/9. It’s not going to be an easy sell

As you say tough follow the money. They expand there is more money for everyone then.

Yes but how the university presidents view this is not in lock step with the conferences. It’s also a tough sell when your trying to sell Alabama vs Duke as a premier playoff game

If you go to 8 teams I don't think you are going to be that bad. May some years will you have a 10-2 team make it yeah but I don't think a 1 vs a 8 would be horrible unless it's a bama that will steam roll everyone in the playoffs no matter what.

One more issue that i am sure that’s being considered. Fan travel. Will fan travel for 3 weeks? Some schools have had issue with even selling allotments now. If you win the semi it’s a quick turnaround to book air & hotel. Schools do not want to be on the hook for tickets. I have heard they were discussing on campus games for the top 4 seeds but issues with ticket revenue are there
