Rodgers, The Packers and Reality

A few insomnia driven thoughts here:

Arod and everyone in the organization knows full well that Love is nowhere near the talent Arod is. And doesn't have the same potential.

ML may very well be saying behind the scenes that while Arod is a luxury his offense doesn't need a HOF QB to work and be successful.

Everyone is looking at the amount of $$$ Arod makes and doing a cost-benefit analysis. The Packers care more about profit/loss than Lombardi's. See my previous tought...

The end of Arod's time in Gb is coming. The organization would do well to make the break sooner rather than later as #12 has not proven to be the QB that elevates the entire team come playoff time when the season is on the line.

Considering the way GB fans turn on players who leave and play for other teams (Favre, Jordy, Jennings, etc....) the fans are very quickly going to forget about him when #12 is gone.....

Getting to the SB without an elite franchise QB with his offensive philosophy might be pretty close to being spot on Cd.
ML has seen SF and LAR be successful with QB’s that are inferior to AR.
And Rodgers contract seems to hinder the teams ability to sign the FA pieces of the puzzle they may still need.
Then they look at AR’s W-L record in playoff games, and especially NFCC games, and they may think there’s another way to get to the Big Dance other than AR.
Murphy might be more interested in P/L statements, but i think ML badly wants to win Lombardi’s and prove his worth as a coach.

Not sure I agree with everything here.
I think the organization wants to win, but let’s not be naive and understand it’s a business. Rodgers is not a kid, he will be 38 in December and to give him an extension with more dollars and think he can play at this level at the age of 40 is a major risk and probably wishful thinking. And when teams have extended elite QB’s it really does not end well. I give you Pittsburgh, New Orleans as recent examples. How many SB did they go to or win?

Yes, Murphy is well aware that the organization owes Rodgers $25.5m cash the next 2 years. Not cap, actual cash and he needs to put that into consideration. Look how LA moved on from Goff, Philadelphia/ Wentz , Detroit/ Stafford. I know maybe not the best examples but if you can’t make the leap with top 15 QB why sit tight. At his age (Rodgers) the wheels can fall off fast.

I actually applaud the organization for getting the heir apparent, not thrilled with the choice or process of trading up but that’s another discussion. I had them looking at a day 2 QB last year depending how the board fell

As far as I am concerned, a team as lucky as the Packers have been with having two back to back HOF QBs is just great. Yes the time is coming that GB will lose the 2nd HOF QB. It is not going to be the same after these past many years with good Field generals on the team. When we lost Starr it took a long time to find one.
I am not saying Love won't follow in their footsteps, but he may not be the answer.. we'll just have to wait and see. However I am all for holding on to ARod as long as they can ( if he produces ).

Would have been interesting to think could Love have made it all way down to 62 last year. Only other QB to go round 2 was Hurts.

I think that last piece is exactly what the team is trying to do, and it’s the cause of the rift with Rodgers. GB has him under contract and wants to go year to year. Rodgers wants more security and guaranteed money than just year to year.

I don’t think he falls to 62. Maybe a 5% chance
