Restricted Free Agency: How Much for Tonyan?

Remember we have cap issues this year extending him might not be possible this season and might have to wait until next year when the cap goes up. A long term deal with prorated SB and base salary could be above the 1st or 2nd round tender tag.
Taking a page from pack, “it all depends on structure”.

I understand the questioning about Tonyan being a 1year wonder, but we may have seen some of what he did in 2020 even back in 2019 if it hadn’t been for his injury.

If they wait until 2022, we’ll see what is market will be, and if waiting was wise or a fool’s enterprise

But I will say what somoene else said Tonyan is nothing but a redzone TE he does very little between the 20s I am not paying him top TE money to be someone n the redzone.

Tonyan was targeted 59 times and made 52 catches. 88%. Nobody else in the NFL hit 80%. Regardless of any shortcomings he has, his catch ratio, and his being 5th in the league with 11 TDs, and having Adams #1 in the league with 18, I think those are telling stats that sometimes get lost in the shuffle.

That said, I do agree that he's excellent inside the 20s. Over 20% of his receptions turn into TDs. That's right at the top.

If they do put a tender on him, I understand. That wouldn't preclude them turning it into a long term contract if nobody tries to steal him. Even if they do, they can outbid them.

I just don't want to see a guy that's giving us so much consistency and scoring ability in the red zone escape.

The stats and the eyeball test don’t match. Whatever the numbers, did anyone here ever actually feel that Tonyan was impacting the game? Does any team specify Tonyan in their game plan (and not just the play action game broadly)? He reminds me of that year James Jones had 14 TDs or whatever it was. Like, yeah that’s a lot of TDs, but he was just kinda there.

The key here is don't overpay.....GB lets itself do that too often. But Mark the production... yeah looking at the skill set you could find the same rather reasonable IF your pro personal has its head out of its hinder, the throw caution to the wind crowd forgets that doing that for 1 year could cripple us for 5. No thank you.

Agreed. Although I like Tonyan, and believe he's a good player, the eyeball test doesn't match. I've never felt like he was a dominating presence where the defense had to always account and lean his way. It's not like he's the second coming of Kellen Winslow. I would be careful about the contract, as Mark stated. The impact of overpaying and over valuing could have far reaching ramifications.

Question is if Lewis wants to play another year do you bring him back again? If so do you pay him the $2.25 million he got last year or do you say vet min no more which I think is about $1.075 million

I'd be inclined to put the 2nd round tender on him, or whatever level will get another team to bite. If you could flip Tonyan for the chance at another Elgton Jenkins or Davante Adams, that's a no brainer right?

I think I went overboard on suggesting the Packers would work something out for Jones. I don't think that's going to happen. Tonyan? Yes.

Then there's Linsley. I figure he's gone too.
