Upgrading the Packers

He's a 4-3 ILB playing in the wrong system, you can quote stats all day long. He's awful in coverage and often gets numbers cleaning up. I have seen him whiff more solo attempts then make. I can cut him loose...move to a 4-3 scheme and spend 1 pick on ILB and be just fine Thank you very much.

I'd prefer us going to a 4-3. That's not the issue. I just don't see how people can assume that their leading tackler, who plays nearly every down on defense, and directs the defense, is worthless.

If we do go to a 4-3, I don't care what they do. I just know they aren't going to find a work horse like Blake has been for less than a million dollars a year. I also don't see anyone coming in the draft who would be effective the first year, and don't know who we'd be seeing coming to GB to play ILB in the 3-4 for less than a king's ransom.

I guess we'll all just have to believe what we want.

EDIT: I do agree on him being worthless in pass coverage. I don't see any of our backers doing it well. Could part of it be our system?

Only thing is can you find impact ILB in draft? Only one that might be close this year is the Bama LB who missed the whole year and would probably need to trade up to get him.

All these questions bring up an interesting point. Is this Pettine's last year with the Packers? Personally, I hope it is.
You have a 12-4 or 11-5 Packers squad and make playoffs I doubt it people will say why get rid of him look at record.

There are other ILB’s hitting the market that could be just as effective as Martinez but would come with a lower price tag. Kwiatkoski from CHI comes to mind.
Pair that person with a quality draft pick and call it a day.

i'm not so sure kwiatkoski is going to come any cheaper than martinez. both were fourth round picks and the only thing hold kwiatkoski back from being a full-time starter is trevathan.

from nbcsports.com:

"Kwiatkoski's performance on Sunday was borderline special. In fact, he was so good that he earned Pro Football Focus' highest grade of any linebacker in the NFL in Week 10 with a 92.4.

His ridiculous showing against Detroit pushed his season grade up to 88.2, which is second-best among Bears defenders with at least 100 snaps this season.

So, yeah, he's going to get paid."

Darron Lee could maybe be a cheaper fit and better fit at MLB then Martinez.

Based on some of the responses on this issue, I'd guess that if the Packers do resign Martinez, and continue to use him as their defensive field general, the coaches and front office should be fired for incompetence?

I don't think we really know what the Packers brain trust considers his value. We will be finding out though, in just a few months, or sooner. Then this discussion will be resolved, from their perspective.

Blake will get more than the Packers can pay.

Hopefully Ty Summers will take a second year step, just like Blake did. Maybe Burks will finally get up to speed.

At any rate, we can find a run stuffer. What we need is a guy who can cover. Maybe move Fackrell inside.

I don't hae faith in summers to even make the team. Guy was borderline on being cut before injuries hit the LB group hard late in TC.
