Politics and Football don't mix

You did, with the complete garbage that was in office before Trump. Liberals and the media do nothing but blow stuff out of proportion, exaggerate it even more,,,,and push it as much as possible to create as much negativity as possible. We finally have a president who can tell us the truth and tell us how it is and some don't like to hear it. Democrats are doing now what they said they would do when Trump won, cause as much distraction, anyway they can to impede him from making any progress and try to generate hate for him. 99% of the negative being preached is nothing but fabricated garbage by the media and liberals themselves. As far as Hilary winning the popular vote...this system is in place to prevent 1 or 2 large populated states from controlling an election on their own. The system works the same for everybody and she lost, plus she wouldn't of gotten more votes if all illegals weren't allowed to vote. Trump is bar far the best president this country has had in a very long time. Liberals will cry and whine no matter what he does. His statement about the NFL and its players is 100% spot on to.

You've been watching too much Fox News. It isn't the media and Democrats that are saying Trump is leading his "followers" down the same path as the Nazis did their supporters, but the entire world, and that now includes the Russians. I'm a Republican, and I see nothing in what he's said that supports my conservative views. All I see is a man who would be dictator, and his loyal followers seem willing enough to let it happen.

Hey, my friends. :)

I think this thread is disintegrating into personal politics, and that doesn't do any of us any good.

As soon as we (those of us on this board) do that, we alienate half of our friends! We saw that during the last presidential election during the political discussions. It would be different if we were all sitting around together on someone's deck. BBQ, salads.....face to face discussion. Talking honestly about how we feel and why. For some reason, that doesn't happen on a board. Online stuff.

I realize that I'm probably going to get fried for this egg(, but could we reel it back in and talk about the thread topic? That maybe politics and football don't mix well? I'm beyond caring about whose fault it is. I just don't care when it concerns my team and my friends (here). I don't want to stop watching my team. I don't want to give the shit-stirrers any more attention than they deserve. And believe me, that's on both sides of the aisle.

I'm not happy with what Kaep did last year (bad QB that he was at the time, why would he expect to get hired now?). I'm not happy that our president brought up the subject right when everyone was ignoring it and it was dying down, during his speech in AL. I'm not happy that he called US citizens SOBs for having an opinion different than his. I'm not happy that the NFL didn't just ignore him. I'm not happy that the Packers (of all teams) chose to have several meetings deciding how to deal with this issue instead of worrying about dealing with the Bears tomorrow night when we have so many injured and out and sent to IR.

It seems that this is going to get even worse as the media will make a HUGE deal of this on Thursday evening. I'm just hoping that we on this board will not let it get out of hand here.

What she said 100%.... focus on the topic, not the messengers, please.

Pretty difficult in this case Mark. This topic deals with racism, politics, and patriotism. You cannot separate one from another in our society, because people use their politics to describe patriotism.

We did it for 4 and a half pages.... it's possible. It's called self-control.... just don't type it ;)

DirecTV is offering refunds to people who ordered Sunday Ticket and want to cancel over the protests. This could be interesting if DirecTV then puts pressure on the NFL if these refunds add up because they pay the NFL a lot for this package and might demand the NFL deal with it.

You had me up until "Trump is bar far the best president this country has had in a very long time." Both candidates were disasters. Trump won because even the Democrats knew Hillary was crooked. I voted for Trump but he has done nothing other than nominate Gorsuch that I can really get behind. Healthcare - failed. Immigration reform - nothing yet. Tax reform - TBD but I don't have high hopes. Trump needs to shut his Twitter account down and be the President not a twit. At this point I'm so fed up with Trump I wish he'd step down.

His statement about the players wasn't spot on. Kaepernick has every right to take a knee or sit. There is no law saying otherwise. The NFL as a business could do whatever they want to stop it but at what expense to them? In my opinion, the NFL should take a stand against the on field protest because it is really hurting their viewership and bottom dollar but that isn't up to me, the President, or government to decide.

Now I remember why I left Packer Report when I did.

I don't consider racism a "political issue." I never will. These players are protesting against racism, nothing more.

I'm waiting for someone to tell me exactly why these black players are stepping forward, if it isn't because of racism? If you say it's political, that's BS. If you say it's anti-patriotism, that's BS.

The issue, plain and simple, is how minorities are treated by whites in our society. Wrapping your opinions in the flag, and saying everyone else is wrong is pure crap!

If you want to quit watching the NFL, do so. Those that remain, and want tickets, will more than happily pick up those season tickets that people are turning in.

Personally, I intend leaving this discussion. It's benefiting nobody, and doing nothing to help the situation.

The players can ask. That doesn't mean we have too. The target keeps moving and the narrative keeps moving and it always devolves to the fact that if a fan does not want to link arms, they will be labeled racist. Wrongly, I might add. I've tried to stay out of things like this. I am a veteran, served in combat. I do believe that there are injustices in this country and I encourage everyone to find a cause that moves them, and support it. I have no problem with protesting. It's why I served and why its protected.
I do not, however, believe it should be done during the displaying of colors and while the anthem is being played. I would also, not link arms at the stadium, as I was would be saluting the flag, with tears running down my face. There is a time and place for it. During the anthem is not the time. That's not being racist.

It's conviluting what Kap was shedding light on. Protesting during the anthem, in my opinion, detracts from the message that's trying to be sent. Lastly, we can, both believe in righting social injustices as well as the right to protest, and believe that the current way is not the right way. They are not mutually exclusive. You can believe in both and still respect both.
