Politics and Football don't mix

Rodgers asking fans at game to join players in sign of unity and link arms together. If I were at the game I do what I normally do take my hat off and put my hand over my heart.
Hey Aaron kiss this

I honestly think Rodgers is just trying to be a peacemaker. He can be a bit dippy hipster at times, but what annoyed me greatly was this quote from the article on NFL.com:

"I think it was Marty's idea," Kendricks said of the idea to lock arms and have fans participate as well. "Aaron spoke first and he kind of laid it out and laid out the fact that he's on our side and he understands the message being conveyed and trying to get across. And then Marty wrote a statement and in the statement he said we're going to lock arms and he's going to challenge the fans to lock arms as well, so it kind of puts them in a position where it's like, 'Look you're either going to unite with us or you're not.' I think that's really cool because it puts them in a position where it's like now we're talking to you, so you make a decision, peacefully make a decision."

Oh really?? You want to challenge the fans? How about you just leave us out of your crap at the very least?

They're being more than a bit tone deaf here. nuts((

We all have to take a step back and realize that Trump has baited the players, NFL, and the fans into reaction over something that could have been resolved easily, with clear minds.

It's what he does. He creates friction, starts a fire, then fans the flames to make it worse. It's his entire business mantra, and we're being manipulated.

All the networks need to do is show the flag and the band or singer performing. Don't show the players, or the field. Make it a non-issue.

While all this crap is going on, we have people in Texas, Florida, and Puerto Rico who are desperately in need of help. Our efforts, our minds, and our concerns should be there more than anywhere else.

Actually I blame the media because if they stop covering this no one will notice no one will care then and it goes away and both sides can go back to normal. It's the media who keeps pushing this all over the place for the ratings.

You think they'd have learned their lesson after helping the man get elected...

Sadly even the team has issued a statement from the players asking fans to join arms. I am sorry this needs to stop a business like this should not be making statements like this that will try to divide people and a fan base more. The team letting their players do their own thing is one matter but asking fans to back them is a different story.

HH, I agree that Aaron was trying to find common ground. I find it disingenuous,(Marty Bennett used the term 'challenge' not Aaron) that some took offense and respond that they lost respect or imply that Aaron can kiss ass.
Really? I don't care for how the issue has been presented, but there IS a societal problem here. I don't like that they ended up using my favorite sport to bring it to the attention of America. I will defend Aaron on this because he did it with class and respectful tones. They 'asked' the fans to join them, they didn't call anyone names. If you don't want to join arms? Fine, that's your right and no one is going to make you.

GBP4EVER is right, it is driven by the media. Sensationalization. I find it odd that people don't like the Politically Correct crowd (me neither, it inhibits true conversation) because they tell you what you can say and/or feel, but Now we have a POTUS who uses the same tactics. This was NOT a huge issue until Trump's crass tweet. Could this all be a distraction so we don't pay attention to the recent revelations that his family conducted official government business over private email accounts? I don't know....and neither does anyone else on this forum.

I would challenge us to think instead of 'feeling' so much. That's the media/Trump domain. They hurt your feelings so you don't think. violin((

You're right. I would get fired for a stunt like this. The players are NOT protected under their 'freedom of speech' for demonstrations while on the job. The NFL failed in this regard and bent to media pressure. Trump did them no favors by throwing gas on it, he should not be making statements like this that will try to divide people.
I don't think the players have done anything wrong in asking the fans to link arms though. Some fans will and some fans won't. I have trouble understanding why people are getting overly upset over that part. Just me- I know.br)

From PFT Florio on the Packers approach for Thursday Night:
This is precisely the kind of approach that takes into account the concerns from which the protests flow with those who regard the anthem as sacred. The NFL should find a way to encourage other teams to come up with a similar strategy that sends the desired message without distracting from it by giving those who defend the anthem a basis for complaining.

as you said earlier, trump is crass. it just amazes me that so many people (less than half, but that's another story) voted for this carnival barker. we have a president who brags that he grab women by the p*ssy and get away with it because he's famous. how embarrassing is that? he thinks that it's cool to call other world leaders names, and he likes to communicate through twitter. i'd seriously rather have bozo the clown as a president.

You did, with the complete garbage that was in office before Trump. Liberals and the media do nothing but blow stuff out of proportion, exaggerate it even more,,,,and push it as much as possible to create as much negativity as possible. We finally have a president who can tell us the truth and tell us how it is and some don't like to hear it. Democrats are doing now what they said they would do when Trump won, cause as much distraction, anyway they can to impede him from making any progress and try to generate hate for him. 99% of the negative being preached is nothing but fabricated garbage by the media and liberals themselves. As far as Hilary winning the popular vote...this system is in place to prevent 1 or 2 large populated states from controlling an election on their own. The system works the same for everybody and she lost, plus she wouldn't of gotten more votes if all illegals weren't allowed to vote. Trump is bar far the best president this country has had in a very long time. Liberals will cry and whine no matter what he does. His statement about the NFL and its players is 100% spot on to.
