T.J. Lang prepared to hit free agency

The cold side of business. Packers did declare last year that they would concentrate on extensions for younger players. Over 30 players who seem nicked up a lot aren't their priority. Don't know who they think they have who can fill the spot though.

But you're right, a courtesy call would not hurt when a player declares their allegiance to your organization. Even if it's to say no thanks.

I would think the Packers are concentrating on Cook, Hyde and Perry at this point. Just my guess. Think they will let Lang test the open market and with his injury he might not get what he is hoping for and the Packers will then jump in. As Dubz says this is a business and a rough one when it comes to player contracts. I am sure MM had some positives to say to Lang on his close out conversation or we would have heard about it from Lang's agent. I'm hoping they save enough on their in house signings to go out and obtain a quality FA CB.

There are a crap-ton of Offensive Line starters being let go this last week. Lots of teams looking for help and TJ might not find the market as ripe as last year when the Bears scooped up Sitton immediately. Then again....he might. Solid veteran starter. Personally, I want him back. Mainly because last year they had Taylor waiting in the wings at Guard. This year I don't see anyone ready to step in.

I think they'll offer a low ball figure to Lang, nothing more. I think they're more concerned about keeping others on the line, and at his age, Lang is odd man out because of salary expectations.

The idea of Cook, Hyde, and Perry having a higher priority makes sense. All three are essential next year. Especially since Cook is our only truly solid TE, Hyde can play dime, nickel, and even step in to the normal defense, if warranted. Perry is a must, especially since we have no idea where it's going with Peppers, whom I hope the resign. He's still a force out there, and a team leader. Holding him out on plays is a coaching option, to keep him fresher, not because he can't do a good job on all three downs. Perry does well as the other half of the equation.

I'm anxious to see if Thompson goes to win the whole thing this year, or if he's going to continue to be a "caretaker" of an 11-5 season, and being dumped out in the playoffs. I hope he goes all-in, but I doubt it will happen.

This could be the most pivotal draft in the career of Rodgers. His time in GB is running out, and we need to put the pieces in place now to make a three year run. If it passes this year, I believe the run is done.

If they don't re-sign Lang, will they re-sign Tretter and make him their penciled-in RG? I guess he'd be in competition with Spriggs for the RG spot, though Spriggs is the top backup for either T spot.

It would be tough to lose both Lang and Tretter unless there's a FA Ted likes which I doubt

With Lang he is over 30 injuries problems but can play tackle in a pinch. Tretter is under 30 but injury problems also. But can be center or a guard. Don't really have a backup center on the team so that would be one spot filled. Spriggs would be a swing guard or tackle. Plus you figure Ted will draft another player that can play guard or tackle. Thus the numbers game runs against Ted keeping Lang.

I say they go with Tretter. Lang is 30 and he's gonna get some offers. Tretter is younger and more versatile.

Spriggs isn't a G, imo. He regressed this year, because they were playing him out of position.

Spriggs had better not be a guard. After swapping 2nd round picks and throwing in a 4th and a 7th, he's got to be waiting in the wings behind Bak or Bulaga.
