Mark Murphy Retirement Date Set

What baffles me is how the Packers front office actually swallowed the whole, "Mecca of football" bit that John Madden always talked about, in Green Bay. Although it is a destination point, it's not like Mecca, where millions of people repeat the journey there, to worship at the house that legends built. It's a football stadium, and to most people, having been there, seen it, and enjoyed what it offers, never return. It's no different than seeing the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, and never heading in that direction again to see it again, because it doesn't do anything.

During the off season, the stadium restaurants are nearly empty, the HOF, and Pro Shop are the same. As for the hotels, barely operational, at best. It's just not the place for summer activities on a general basis.

If it fails, it's because they've alienated the local people and businesses, driving them away from the zone. That's the last thing they should allow to happen. The Packers are supposed to be part of the community, not a competitor to them.
NE built their stadium district and the Packers FO went and saw it and came back thinking they can do the same. Thing is NE did their's much better with resturant and shopping that can get people to come to it year round. GB was piss poor planned with not having anything lined up when they started buying homes and tearing them down.

new england's stadium is also only 22 miles away from downtown boston. green bay's stadium isn't near any major city, and there is very little else to draw people there.

Yes and No on people traffic during the summer months.
We were at the stadium on June 9th and,
………..
No - The eateries were not busy (partially because they were having some big corporate gathering in the atrium and access was limited), and the hours open are different in summer.
Yes - We took the Legends Stadium tour (most expensive one) and we had a full compliment of ~50 people. Tour business was very brisk, and so was customer traffic in the Pro Shop.
People do come back over and over to visit the stadium if they are genuine fans.

The GB area, and especially Door County, does generate off season traffic, and if (IF) they had the right mix of eating/shopping/entertainment to offer in the Title Town District it could be a much different story than it currently is.
JMHO

My oldest son was there last weekend, and he said it was darned near deserted everywhere. In fact he commented on the fact that there were only 3 tables with people at them, in the restaurant. I assume he's referring to 1919. He saw a handful of people in the HOF, and it was nearly deserted in the Pro Shop.

They too went on the tour, and it was less than half full. He referred to it as "The Mausoleum tour." It was embarrassing, since he had friends from Texas up visiting, and wanted them to get the feel of Lambeau. They left feeling it was, "nice," nothing more.

That's not the type of experience that people should have. Only Packer fans are enamored by the Packer HOF, and the myths surrounding the team. There needs to be more "punch" in what's there, to make it interesting for people who don't bleed green and gold. I'm afraid it's not happening, and I doubt Murphy is the guy who has enough P.T. Barnum in him, to make it happen.

They should get it up to par where we can hold the draft here, populate the stadium with offsrason concerts and that type of stuff. I think it's pretty close..

Without a dome there's no chance of a Superbowl here.

Concerts and “other” events (like this years soccer match) are likely going to be limited to one event/yr given the current construct.

What happens inside of Lambeau (like eating/tours/pro shop) is always going to be a limited revenue stream without a viable Title Town District.

Never happen because GB doesn't have enough hotel rooms...not even close for major events. You have to have everything in sync and that's just not there in GB.

PS

No more concerts it plays havoc on the grass turf.

GB will do one concert/NCAA game a year because of this. But they still will go ahead and do that one because of the money it draws for them.

MM with better vision and planning could have made the district into something really cool that would have supported itself... But basically MM just went out and took whatever business agreed to come in no matter what.. There are always people staying in DC who mention wanting to go to Lambeau.

There is no design consistency at all. It's ugly. There is also no "football town" feel to it at all. It is very much something thrown together by an assistant AD who has no clue about marketing, design, etc...

Wasted opportunity. It could have been really cool with the right design/plan team. It isn't empty because of lack of interest it's empty because it sucks.

Hinterland is way overpriced and not that good. 1919 isn't that great either. And also overpriced. There is nothing to attract a family there in the summer either.
