Packers Cuts to 75

Except that we're hearing our last cuts will be snapped up by other teams?!?

Yes but us as fans overvalue our players. Look at last year we thought Abbrederis would be claimed 100% if cut and he was not.

That's not all the cuts that are needed to get to 75 on Tuesday. There are a few more. We're probably not going to hear too many names that matter until the final cut from 75 to 53. That's when it gets interesting.

Mortell did not have a great game against the 49ers. That lack of hang time began to show. That's the death knell in the NFL. I think he pressed too hard and it showed. But, that's what it is, every game in the NFL. Do it "or else."

My biggest question is how they treat the D-line needs, and possibly the linebackers. We don't know if Peppers and Matthews are going to end up sitting for a while. Bummer!

I wonder if Abbrederis is the LOCK to make the final 53 that some of us think he is?

I guess it comes down to Davis, Allison or Abbrederis - one of those three won't make the final cuts. All 3 of those players will make some NFL roster.

I think he is. He and Cobb maybe the only two guys really playing that slot position well. Having someone effective in the slot is big if they continue to move Cobb around out of the backfield or split out wide on occasion. Then you add in the punts and kick offs, he's done what he needs to.

Cuts on Monday. Note: I don't see Herb Waters mentioned anywhere yet.
1. DT Demetris Anderson
2. CB Randall Jette
3. WR Jamel Johnson
4. LB Derrick Mathews
5. P Peter Mortell
6. WR Ed Williams.

Waters was mentioned very early on. Maybe a mistake though?

i just looked at the team roster page on packers.com. it looks like it has been updated to reflect the cuts so far (all six of the names in eyecatcher's post are missing for example). but herb waters is still on the roster.

Exactly. Then the Packers decide if they want to pay him off or carry him on IR the rest of the season. It's fairly rare where a guy will be grabbed. Usually the injury is bad enough the guy will be out for several months, making it unlikely he will return. I think it's only applicable to guys through their first four years in the league. Could be wrong on that point.
