The Green Bay Packers finish the road part of the preseason schedule with a trip to Colorado to play the Denver Broncos.
It will be Green Bay’s first preseason trip to Denver since 2008, when it won, 27-24. Prior to that, the teams had not played in the preseason since squaring off in four straight preseasons (1998-2001).
This will be the 10th preseason meeting between the Packers and Broncos, with Denver winning six of the previous nine matchups. The regular-season series between the two is even at 6-6-1.
In six of the past seven seasons, Green Bay has had a preseason matchup against an AFC West opponent. Since 2000, there have been 12 seasons in which the Packers have played a team from the AFC West in the preseason.
The Packers play just one AFC team in the preseason for only the second time (2013) since 2000. For comparison, there have been eight seasons since 2000 where Green Bay has played one NFC team in the preseason. And there have been four preseasons (2000, 2001, 2005, 2012) where the Packers have only played AFC teams during the exhibition season.
With wins over the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins, the Packers began the preseason 2-0 for the second consecutive year.
The first preseason game the Packers played in the city of Denver was not against the Broncos. It was a 35-31 loss to Washington on Sept. 10, 1946.
The Packers are 9-2 all-time in preseason games played on August 26. (1961, 1973, 1978, 1989, 1994, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2010, 2011, 2016; only losses came in 1978 and 2005).

Game 3 is the week I want to see, starters for a half. The last game is always s&## show of backups. The big issue is the other team plays starters on defense for a half or more so staying healthy is key.

I think you will see Packers starters play a half to 3 quarters depending on who the starter is. Key will be hoping no one goes down with a injury and then week 4 your backups play well and no injuries and onto the season.

Great test for the team. Can we protect ARod? Can we run the ball? Our defense will be tested with Denver's ground game. They run the ball a lot. The biggest question is: can we rush the passer? So far this year it looks like we're pushing the blocking sled instead of applying pressure.

i'm going to go against the grain here. rodgers is done for the preseason. the packers used the second game as their third game. for whatever reason, they decided not to play rodgers at mile high.

and even if they do play rodgers it won't be for more than a single series. no way the starters are playing for three quarters. or even the first half for that matter.

i could be wrong, but that's what my gut is telling me. or it could just be indigestion.

I have a hunch the Packers use this game for more evaluation of younger players, and less than they even talked about, for experienced players. There have already been too many injuries in games, and practice. They'll save these guys for the start of the season.

This game could get a little ugly depending on Denver's strategy. I suspect the Packer starters play less than usual for a 3rd preseason game. If Denver goes with starters longer, which is more typical for game 3, things will not go our way I suspect.

I predict that Hill is going to have a great game, so is Spriggs at right tackle. Probably a better fit for him. I also see Janis showcased to make his value better, if a LeSean McCoy & Reggie Ragland for Janis and a draft pick, is still on the board. The Packers would try to push it down to a #6 or lower. Thompson shouldn't do the deal at anything above #5 right now.

On defense, the middle of the field will remain open, and we'll be picked apart with crossing and in routes. We're going to see that we aren't really all that deep at linebacker either, regardless of all the hype.

I don't see this as a game where we run a normal offense. It's going to be a "show" offense, so they can evaluate players. On defense, it's going to be a display of ineptness, mostly from the lack of schemes that actually work.
