Post-game Vikings Defeat GB 23-7

MM teams had that similar disjointed look to them, and I think you have to look to the common denominator. It's not lack of preparation, I think it's just what it looks like when the offense is trying to serve two masters at once. They're constantly trying to balance the Rodgers playbook with the ML playbook based on players available, match ups, flow of the game, etc. Just look at the 3rd quarter this week. They're down 20 but still have a prayer. They score a TD on a nice drive - 5 runs, 2 passes. The O found something. D gets a stop, they get the ball back. They get two nice runs from Jones and Dillon, then go pass happy - 3 pass attempts in a row, once resulting in a sack. Momentum dead, game over.

It's all just so tiresome.

How do we know it is not ML's play calling? It is a serious question.

I get that AR has the ability to audible when he wants to but when I watched the game, I am not seeing AR always audibling out of runs.

Can anyone explain how they know this is happening and it is AR hero ball?

Not really the case in terms of first games. In ML's 4 openers the team has scored 10 points or less, three times. That never happened once, I don't think, in the MM era. There were some openers in the 17 point range but that was about as bad as it got offensively. Now, they sometimes sucked on defense which is another story.

I agree that AR is likely part of the problem and maybe it's how he and ML mesh during camp that's the issue. AR is bored with camp these days and isn't ready to go game 1. Still, past Packer teams didn't lay these kinds of eggs on offense in the opener.

In the end, as Mark pointed out, it's still just one game and in the past they've recovered to have great regular season records. Agree that you just throw this one out, like last season, and move along and see how it plays out. With the return of some o-linemen and Lazard, along with the growth of the young WR's, they likely will right the ship, finish with a solid record and make the playoffs.

Well, I do not agree with this comment by AR. In fact, it worries me a little. He should be saying we need to get Jonsey and Dillion the ball more and get them involved. Sammy Watkins is not a game changer anymore.

“We’ve got to be able to throw the ball outside the numbers,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said. “A lot of the plan this game seemed to be inside-the-numbers stuff, so Sammy didn’t have a lot of opportunities. We’ve got to find a way to get him the ball because he’s been playing great, he’s been practicing great.

Why is it that 12 is the only one I’ve heard pumping up how good Watkins has been in practice?

First of all in another thread, we have confirmation that ML melded MM offense with his for AR, so there is that. He's monkeying all into the offense CB it's not debatable anymore.

Yesterday I know I saw ML in a rage and yelling at the other assistants "WTH is he doing" before a snap...

Also, their audibles are mostly silent and many are built into the call, so your not going to "see" them.

Third, we have had former/current players come out and clarify that he audibles out a ton, somewhere on here is Ty Dunne's story with all that jazz..

The Good
  • They play Chicago at home Sunday
  • Watson showed nice speed deep.
The Bad
  • Jones needs more than 8 touches. Malpractice
  • The OL is a mess, Tom needs to be in the lineup. No excuses
  • Run spread on 4th and 1? I get the got stoned at the line early but that’s a bailout call and then throw into double coverage
The Ugly

  • The secondary. Scheme and coverage was awful My #23 was not on Jefferson is malpractice
  • Both safety’s were pedestrian

Ok it’s one game but I am much more concerned with D after yesterday.

That's his MO in previous stops as a DC, he had a decent year last season but nothing earth shattering.
Last year, Matt would communicate with him and tell him what to do. Which worked great btw.
