What does the roster look like next year?

Gary's gone, Jenkins is gone (he's also going over 30 this year if he hasn't already, forgot, and saves us a ton of money).

Jacobs is back, 100%. They do not have anyone reliable behind him other than Wilson, and I doubt he's a full-season type of lead back. And I cannot believe you're even using Lloyd as a potential. They have ZERO reason to believe in Lloyd at this point. He's only on the team still because he's cheap, and not currently taking up a roster spot, and can absolutely be a huge spark if he ever actually gets a chance.

I think getting rid of Gary/Jenkins frees up enough $ to bring back Quay, but obviously that's dependent a bit on McDuffie. If McDuffie's back, then they may feel fine enough to have Hopper take Quay's role. (I'd prefer it to be Cooper, Quay, and Hopper) but he'll be around $15m per year. So I can see him gone.

Doubs is gone. For sure, not even a question.

Keisean is not a CB 1, but he's more than adequate, and I can see him back. The best they're going to be able to do is draft a CB in round 2, so that's a rookie, so they're probably not going to be overconfident in the rookie and keep K9 and Valentine as their outside guys until any rookie is ready.

As far as the OL is concerned I suspect things started to go south when we moved a proven solid guard to center and let Myers walk. From all accounts, Myers is playing well ( I can't recall where he went right now). This singular move messed up this line and we are still reeling from it. This is an area we have to shore up. If your OL stinks so does your offense.

I'm not sorry we traded for Parsons. He is special and as we saw irreplaceable. Just ask Dallas. God knows what is up with Gary. He has bust written all over him. Too bad we let Slaton go. Losing Wyatt and no Clark in the middle devastated this D. Gute should take heat for not fortifying this position after the Parsons trade. Even before Micah's injury our pass rush and run stopping was an issue. Without high draft picks, we may have to dabble in FA to address this weakness.

Our corners are dreadful. They don't cover very well and are allergic to tackling. I wonder if we thought a good pass rush would camouflage that problem. This abyss might be the biggest issue for Gute and company this offseason.

In previous years when there was a roster void, Gute was able to throw draft picks and FA at it (see the S group two years ago). This year he has neither luxury. No abundance of picks, little to no FA money. I'm sure we'll get a draft pick there but I'm not sure how satisfactory the results will be. It's a problem several years in the making, roots going back to the Jaire shoulder injury and the reach for Stokes.

totally off-topic, but can i just say it sure is nice to see some old and new faces in this thread.

might be? the biggest issue is gute and whoever the scouts are that are feeding him the info that he uses to create his draft board. he always seems to be three years behind in crafting the roster because he has so many dumb picks. and then he tries to plug the leaks with free agents that nobody else wants.

I think a big part of the problem is Gute's fascination with size/speed/RAS score. He seems to value these physical "traits" and their potential more than production and skill. It's the reason for Stokes, Gary, LVN, Morgan, Golden, and others. It's kinda why all those first rounders flop or at best just aren't great football players.
