This is kind of the crux of it. Their football opinion seems to be that they didn't want him after the 2021 season. Rodgers' monster season probably made Rodgers think that they'd come to him about keeping him around longer, but they didn't. To their credit (IMO) at the time the team stuck to their timeline - they wanted to move money around but they didn't want to extend him or redo the whole thing to set the market. In a perfect world yeah, Rodgers is around one more year and they move to Love. Guess what? Rodgers isn't going to let that happen, he's going to make them choose now.
Now things go sideways. If you had your football opinion 3 months ago, what happened to change it now? Besides Rodgers starting to throw a fit. But if you moved off your position because of THAT, then that's pretty weak.
Like I said, I go back and forth on this, but I think I would stick to the plan the best I could: trade Rodgers for the best deal possible, get a stopgap vet QB, maybe someone from the SF or LAR universe, and (here's the hard part) suck it up and keep Love on the bench another year. The teams's eval is the Love isn't ready, stand by it.
