Post Game Thread: Oakland beats GB

Game Overview:

Offense

QBs- Just as we thought. Hundley can play against 2nd and 3rd stringers but cannot play against real talent. He showed that again tonight. Kiser showed tonight he is not even close to ready to take over. We have major problems at back up QB. MM is trying to get Boyle to the PS but I doubt he makes it. Hope I am wrong.

OLine- Wow. Murphy was a disaster. Spriggs at least held his own at times. Although, that was on the 3rd stringers. :). Pray we do not have to use either of those two this season. Pankey was inconsistent and pretty much stunk as well. Not a ton of positives here

RBs- Jones got some reps and looked ok. First playing time. I like Daniels from Iowa more than Boudnano or whatever his name is. He is bigger and runs with some power.

WRs- Nobody showed up tonight except for Allison and Moore. I will give Moore credit. He made the team tonight. Great catch on the deep ball from Kiser. St Brown may have lost a spot tonight. Valdez was non-existant. Unfortunately, we need Cobb. We have no one else.

TEs- Byrd had a decent game. Did Tonyan even play tonight?

STs- I don't think Davis made the team. Alexander was very smart with punts he just did not have a chance to return any. We have plenty of options for a returner. Jackson proved he is very capable. Scott had a good night except for the 36 yarder.

Defense

DLine- Not really impressed so far with Wilkerson. He is just ok. Lowery played ok as well but was not excellent. Clark played really well I thought although did not really pressure the QB. Maybe Daniels coming back will help. Gilbert played very well tonight again vs their ones. We have an option to back up Matthews and Perry. Fackrell is meh and Biegell should be cut.

ILBs- Martinez was fine. Thomas showed some ability. He has flashes. Martini inconsistent and will need time to develop. Burks is an idiot for getting hurt in warm ups. :)

CBs- Very impressed with Jackson so far. The man can cover, can tackle pretty well, and is a ball hawk. Alexander played ok for his limited play. The INT showed his ability. I think Gute might have hit on these guys. After them I have no idea who we should keep. They are all inconsistent. Flip a coin.

S- For me this group shows nothing. They are very average. No splash plays and average coverage skills. HaHa is meh. Brice can hit but nothing else. Jones could be cut IMO. The rest are just guys. Very weak group.

I think the D will be better this year based on what I have seen. O will be good of course with AR, Adams, and Graham. Pray for no injuries since we have no depth.

I keep thinking about Arden Key going in the 3rd round. We may have needed some help at CB, but Key is going to be one helluva player before he's through. The guy is quick off the ball, and has an immense variety of moves to shuck blockers. He took on a double team block last night against the Pack, and schooled them on it.

Key went 2nd round right before Packers picked

I know everyone says don't panic in the pre-season. And i'm not the panicking type anyway. So here is goes. MM sucks. The NFL has passed him by and it's time for him to go. Winning a crappy division year after year because you have Arod is not impressive.

My biggest complaint right now. Your star QB hasn't played much since his injury. The Offense has a lot of new faces, the OL is still shaky. So what does this self professed historically good coach do? Sit almost entire starting offense??? Arod doesn't play at all??? Are you trying to get these young WR time with the guy who will be throwing them the ball to them, or have them work with Qbs who have totally different styles, abilities, etc???? I started this a few seasons ago #FIREMM no more excuses. The Pack may be throwing away the first 5 games.

Offensive rants...
-OL depth is non existent. our OL isn't that great to begin with, already has the injury bug, and we have nothing after that.. Arod better be able to run like he** this year.
-WR's already addressed this. Despite being raw and having questionable talent, MM isn't getting them reps with the guy they will be playing with. I don't care what you say about practice... practice is NOT the same as real game time.
-RBs once again GB has a collection of mediocre guys who will flash a play once a game or so when people are like "see see!!! we have an RB!!"
-TE may be the only group that is decent... kendricks didn't look great, but look who was throwing to him.
-QBs uggg. Hundley hasn't progressed at all, he still looks like a rookie. Kizer I give a little leeway too because he just got here, and is just learning the offense. MM royally screwed over Boyle by not playing him at all. Jerk...

Defensive rants...
-LB WTF is CMIII dropping back into coverage?? The guy is slow as molasses these days. He also gets blocked easily by TE's and OL. Nobody doubled teamed him and he still isn't getting much rush, even against second team OL. Cut him, his salary isn't worth his production. None of the LBs did much. I htink Gilbert got another sack though yes?
-DL hello?? Buehler, Buehler, Buehler..... ??
-Secondary actually I have some hope for these guys. If GB still had Randall this group would be really solid. But no, MM (and the veterans) and his fragile whimpy ass ego couldn't handle a young kid with spunk.

Special team rants...
-I actually think this group will be decent.
-Dear lord MM are you trying to ruin Scott?? The poor kid punted 7 times. If you can punt seven times for an almost 45 yard average i think you'll be fine. As long as your coach doesn't ruin your leg before the season even starts. This kid has punted 14 times so far in pre-season games.

But this is just more proof of how bad MM is. Hundley has been here going on FOUR YEARS and isn't any better than Kizer or Boyle despite having all that practice time and time to learn the offense and an almost full season as a starter. So either MM sucks at developing QBs or he sucks at talent eval.. Your choice.. I'm going with both actually. He hasn't ever developed a QB that amounted to much. Arod pretty much developed himself.

This is a tad worrying too though. MM and Gutey are having their first pissing contest and it's over two crappy QBs. MM wants Hundley and Gutey went out and got Kizer. They'l both be on the 53 though. bh( Meanwhile they both seemed fine with unceremoniously booting Jordy.

So there you go. As I said, people say you shouldn't read too much into pre-season. But there is definitely cause for worry... We aren't watching a team with an already tuned up starting squad who is just trying to work on depth. Many of those sucking wind out there were starters (WR, DL, LB, RB....) This is week 3. We should be improvement and the team coming together. Instead it looks like first days of camp.

What we learned last tonight.

1. OL depth is as bad as we thought.
2. Hundley is worse than we thought.
3. Kizer isn’t far behind Hundley.
4. The QB room isn't fine after Rodgers.
5. We learned nothing about the rookie WRs because of 1-4. Which is a complete ****ing waste of a trip out west.
6. Josh Jackson is good.
7. Opie can punt.
8. Hundley is the backup.
9. Hundley is the backup.
10. Hundley is the mother ****ing backup.

What you saw last night was a microcosm of how bad scouting and drafting was the last 3-5 years. We missed not only on a few guys who could have contributed as starters right away the lack of quality depth does not get fixed in 1 or 2 years. Even this year draft was somewhat suspect. Yes I’m still on my Derwin James rant.

The last 2-3 preseasons you saw the major drop off from the first 22 to backups. It’s was stunning unless you were blinded by green and gold glasses. And for all the angst on Mc Carthy and yes he is far from perfect and has flaws, Thompson did not leave the shelves full. Talent overall was mediocre at many positions especially depth.

Overall I’m not shocked where this team is now.

Not only that GB seems to get rid of some of the guys who can play on top of that.
