Post Game Thread: GB defeats Chicago 41-25

Hate to see Linsley go down

me too. he's the highest rated player on the o-line (although i think jenkins is better overall).

question: i thought we had a few injuries last night. is linsley the only one?

could not agree more. his work with kittle in the offseason over the past two years is paying dividends.

The fact that Jimmy Graham took snaps away from him last year is a bit of a black eye for the org. They had to know Tonyan was a more viable option with live legs than Graham was.

Wasn’t Tonyan playing with a core injury last season, which he had surgically fixed in the off season?
He may not have been able to show much last year even if he had gotten more snaps.

The Good
  • The running game reappeared, nice balance between Jones and Williams
  • 8 REC by the TE group, Tonyan continues to take the next step
  • The defense, yes the defense. Only 10 points and 200 yds surrendered and thats with 57 coming on 1 play. Q4 was garbage time. Yes it was Trubisky and CHI but there was energy out there
  • OL play was solid, 12 stayed clean
The Bad
  • Only 6 for 62 out of the WR group not named Adams and one was a 24 yard crossing route vs little resistance.
  • Small nitpick but Jones needs more touches in the passing game, only 2 targets
  • Hate to see Linsley go down
The Rest
  • I feel bad for Trubisky. Not his fault he was overdrafted, not his fault Nagy is the HC, not his fault the talent level on offense is anemic. He's broke now but serviceable, not elite but serviceable
  • The division is a mess and talent wise sans GB offense might be the worst in football top to bottom. I give the NFC East a pass with whats on IR. Complete reconstruct in CHI and DET, GB is at a crossroads in 2-3 years and Minny has Cook, Jefferson and not much else
  • We are 8-3
Disagree he came as a one year starter. If he was so good why could he not win the starting job before at NC? He was a overhyped player much like Jordan Love and should have probalby been an 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Rodgers wasn’t touched by the Bears tonight. Reminiscent of the first few games- if they’re keeping him clean, he destroys teams.

Liked seeing ESB getting some run in. They need him.

Defense. Pretty good night for Preston Smith and Savage but the defensive issues remain. Bears have a reasonably more competent QB and the it's a much different game. Good to see MLF not happy with the way they finished.

Reading is fundamental. I said clearly he was over drafted and no he had a round 1 grade by some. He did not have a round 3 skill set or scouting report. His senior year was very good. Ask Fedora why he didn’t start? Maybe could have saved his job long term

I'm always reminded that even in this day and age, with advanced scouting, and media, there were six QBs drafted before Tom Brady's name came up. It's so difficult to honestly project just how good a guy will be at the next level until you see how they fit into the game the drafting team intends to use. All too often, coaches will not budge from a stiffly regimented game plan, and what could have been a decent QB languishes on the bench until his desire disappears, and he ends up as a footnote as a wasted pick.

Then, guys like Rodgers get pissed about going late in the first round and teach everyone he should have been #1. That said, there's no guarantee whatsoever that had he been the #1 pick, that his game would have ever reached the level it has.

Both Brady, and Rodgers, had the unique experience of sitting for an extended period of time, learning all the good and bad things about their predecessors, who were decent QBs. Had they been thrown in, year one or two? Who knows. They could have ended up sitting across a table from Ryan Leaf, lamenting how things didn't work out for them.

I do believe though that Trubisky was drafted too high. Knowing that Mahomes was taken 10th, and that the Bears traded up for Mitch.... a real blunder. They've had a bad case of the yips when it comes to getting a QB that has franchise QB written on his forehead through trade, or draft. It almost seems like they've resigned themselves to saying that beating the Packers once, maybe twice, in a season, makes the season a success.

And I can also make the case that if Chicago had taken Mahomes there is no guarantee that that staff and system would have been a fit for his skill set. Same with Watson who was picked after Trubisky. Mahomes was ripped by some because he played in a “system” at Tech that inflated QB numbers and the Big 12 didn’t play a lick of defense. Well the defense point is valid. I know I’m beating a dead horse here but it’s evaluation how a player fits the system, something that’s lacking in GB now. Trubisky probably was a 20-30 range in round 1. The knock was why didn’t he win the job as a sophomore. Coaches make mistakes too, especially Fedora
