Post Game: Packers Nip Lions 23-20

Went back and watched the game. By the way, I did not see the game. I listened to it on the radio. This is the first time I watched it.

1) Blake Martinez needs to go. He was absolutely horrible against the run. Choosing the wrong hole and no aggressiveness at all. Lowery also got man handled in the first half on a lot on runs by the Lions.

2) These dropped passes have got to stop come playoff time.

3) AR was not as bad a you may think in the first half. He missed Jones on the TD but otherwise the deep balls were covered. They maybe had a half a step on the DB's. I also did not see any open WR's that he missed underneath. (At least in the first half) There were also two big passes that our WRs just did not get their feet in bounds. The second half he missed three major throws that could have made this game much easier. Things were just a little off. It seemed like the game plan was to go deep and stretch the field on the Lions. A good amount of the routes were deep routes.

As Pack has said, razor thin with this team. AR needs to make those throws in the playoffs. They will be needed at some point.

Jones was again the man.

Their game plan was to throw IMO, because Detroit's pass D was 32nd overall. But they didn't practice this week, so the timing was off.

Aaron continues to throw off the back foot, falling backwards, etc. Glad they got the win. They can take New Years off and still have a week to practice, clean things up.

Another thing I noticed was Aaron never lined up under center. It seemed like he went shotgun ALL day. That's McCarthy Ball. But again throwing against that D was the big plan.

First, this has been said to you time and time again. AR has never thrown off of set feet and Favre rarely did either. Makes no sense when you bring it up time and time again. It means nothing.

Second, being in shotgun all day does not have anything to do with AR. He does not call the plays even though some of you would like to believe he changes them up all the time. There are tons of teams that run a version of the spread in shotgun.

Lastly, this is a combo of a first year O, AR not being pristine accurate, and ML learning how to play call with the players he has. This is far from McCarthy ball if you are actually watching the motion and how the routes are run.

1: Incorrect. Aaron used to be the anti-Favre. Also, being able to sling it with all arm is a lot easier when you are 26, than when you are 36.

2: Aaron does not like to turn his back to the defense, which Matt's play action scheme requires.

3: Accuracy is the result of using proper mechanics to throw the ball the same way every time. It's like looking down gun sights. This is why Bert Favor was called a gun slinger. He was too country to do things in the "proper" way.

I really don’t think we are watching the same game or film.

Rodgers is more like Favre than you think. Bug difference was 12 did not try and fit the ball in small windows and get picked. 12 took more sacks , less chances

#2 you don’t turn your back in play action. It’s about the play fake and freezing the LB and S, drop and throw.

#3 accuracy is about reps, receivers running correct routes and being on the same page reading coverage. Does Mahomes have great mechanics? No. It’s really difficult to not throw off your back foot when a 300 lb lineman on your ass. If mechanics is about accuracy Goff would be completing 70%, Winston would not have 30+ picks and Kirk Cousins would be a 1st ballot HOF QB.
 
The problem isn't Rodgers' mechanics in a vacuum here, the problem is his mechanics relative to the changes that have occurred in his upper and lower body over the past 2 seasons. He said himself in his post-game presser, when the ball left his hand on those deep shots, he thought they were on target even though they weren't. There is a disconnect between what his brain and muscle memory are telling him, and what his bones and muscles and tendons in his knee and arm and shoulder and torso are allowing him to do.

So it's not about back foot, front foot or anything like that. I don't think he's accepted the fact that what his brain thinks is a 95mph fastball on the corner is now sailing up and away. And look, Peyton Manning went through this and re-taught himself how to throw the ball after his neck injury. He worked and worked and worked at it. What has me pessimistic about Rodgers future is that he's shown no signs of admitting that he needs to do the same thing. Rodgers is not the student and technician that Manning was. He could play another 5 years at a high level if he was but he isn't. I think he's going to roll with what he has and what he's been doing, and then settle down on his Malibu estate at whatever point.
