Some excellent thoughts and views of what Hundley and the coaching staff are, and are not doing. It makes me wonder if there are people around McCarthy who honestly take the time to inform him of what they personally see, or are they a little afraid to offer criticism for fear of losing their jobs, or being chastised, for not, "following the script."
I threw in "script," because McCarthy is big on it, to start games. In fact, 15 to 20 plays, sometimes more, to start a game. In some cases, that has ended up being as many plays as we get for the first quarter and a half.
Where that was workable, with Rodgers, because of his ability to change plays at the line of scrimmage, knowing his personnel package on the field, and what they could do within specific formations - not so with Hundley, who obviously struggles to understands, or sees what's in front of him, prior to plays, and as they unfold.
If you combine what everyone has said in this thread, you can almost see a pattern where there's a lack of communication. It seems to start with coaches not understanding Hundley's liabilities, and ends with them not using personnel packages that makes it easier for him to change plays, on the fly.
What's kind of scary is that all the negatives pointed out in the scouting reports when he came out for the draft, still seem to exist. Fortunately that didn't stay that way with Rodgers, but maybe we give McCarthy himself way too much credit in developing a QB, and not enough credit to the guys he's worked with, in developing them?
Very interesting info.
