Running backs who have better credentials that Jones are let go by teams every year, simply because the franchises realize that the shelf life of a highly productive RB is limited. They have refused to pay top dollar for a guy who no longer has that level of play left in them.
Drafting Dillon was obviously intended to send a message to Jones that it's up to him to produce numbers that makes them interested in him down the road. Although he has flashes where he looks extremely good, it's hard to classify him as one of the top 5 or 6 RBs in the league. That makes me question why the Packers would even consider paying him that kind of money. Yet, we also know there are teams that will over pay, and he's gone. The allegiance, by players, is to the money.
I've already written him off for next year. I'm more concerned about seeing how creative they can be to keep Tonyan.
