Packers Trade Trevor Davis

Davis held little to no value as a WR and not much more as a return man. Most kickoffs today are touch backs and also many punts are fair catches. So the Packers were able to trade a guy who was going to be a FA after the season and were not going to resign and get a draft pick for him. Plus they have two guys on the roster who can return kicks and have multiple years left on contract. This was easy trade to make.
 
Watch for Tremon Smith becoming our next return man, replacing Davis. He was odd man out in KC, but in GB, he could fill a lot of roles. On special teams, and as a back up DB. I'd say the trade of Davis indicates the Packers are satisfied with the people they have at WR without him, and Smith offers help on defense, where they may feel they're a bit thin.

This seems to be a calculated move to make the team slightly better, and at the same time, create a little change, which can keep players on their toes, letting them know that they aren't afraid to make roster changes when they feel the need.

Nothing says; "Play harder," than a degree of uncertainty for your future if you don't step your game up a notch, if possible.

I question also part to release him was this past week he did not call a fair catch when he should have and got drilled by the defender lucky he did not fumble but if he had MN would have had great field positon had he dropped it off the hit.

i mentioned this in shout last night, but i'll say it here again. i'm not convinced he offers anything on defense. according to one article that i read, reid was trying to convert him to a running back. i do think his speed makes him valuable on both runbacks and as a gunner.

He was not an expert at it. Expert means you do it right. Too many times he put his heels on the 10 only to back up inside the 5 to fair catch it. Plus did he not call for a fair catch this last week let it go over his head and then proceed to block and get an unsportsmanlike conduct call?

Agree, he is a ST pickup, don't expect him to play CB. That said, you could argue that as far as ST guys go who only play in a pinch, a corner with 4.3 speed is a lot more valuable than a WR.

As far as Reid goes, he's a creative guy and he was probably just looking for a way to put another 4.3 guy on the field, any way any how.

Actually no he wasn't.... they need to call up a WR and tried to slip Smith through waivers on a Saturday night to sign him to the PS. They wanted him back in KC. Credit to Gutes staff for catching it

Heard KC was bummed they lost him to GB.
